Natives, who had their own highly developed musical traditions, quickly mastered European musical practices. African music was also brought to Mexico during the early colonial period. With all the sweet sounds of the violins against the brilliance of the trumpets, and the deep sound of the guitarro, the resulting sound is the heart and soul of Mexico. It is important to remember Mariachi music- is not just music to be played and sung. From the very start it was music to be danced.
Storytelling is very important to the native culture, and remains a crucial activity in order to keep it alive. It carries the power to heal and revive what has been neglected. In the story Three Day Road, Joseph Boyden effectively illustrates the powerful affect of storytelling. Throughout the story there are many accounts of storytelling amongst the characters. The main characters using storytelling are Niska and Elijah, telling their stories to Xavier, and Xavier telling his own stories to himself.
Because of this, the songs get passed down from generation to generation, from bard to bard; some even existing today. Music genres like folk music and country/western music still carries the traits of the music of the bards in the way that they too, carry stories and histories about today’s societies and ways. Folk music emerged in the 15th to 19th centuries and is the musical aspect of folklore and is a clear link to traditional bardic music as it is ‘the earliest kind of music’ . Folk music is portrayed to be traditional and a way of describing the life of people in their communities.
PART I HISTORY AND OVERVIEW OF AN ARGENTINE MUSICAL CULTURE The origins of folk music in Argentina are a result of three main cultural influences – Inca, Spanish and African. Combined in various ways, these cultures provided a varied folk music to Latin America in the mid-nineteenth century. These native sounds were the building blocks of many composers in Argentina of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in their quest to establish a nationalist, musical language. The Incas inhabited the territory now known as Argentina well before the Spanish arrived in the early 1500s. Though no evidence through musical notation has survived, the Incas were believed to be a strong musical civilization.

Polynesian tradition was oral knowledge gained form one’s elders through song, dance, storytelling, weaving, and much more. Myths and legend not only existed to entertain the people but also helped to establish a social identity and bond between groups of people. Maori myths and legends have traditionally portrayed men as heroic figures while women were depicted as nurturing characters. This portrayal of both genders contributed to the representation of status and roles men and women possess in Maori society. Men were apt to the position of leadership and power while women took on less challenging roles.

Now this might be true of all the four areas in this time however with History the actual language it was told in was very important to the History itself. For example in the tribes that habited parts of West Africa they passed down their history in chants set to drum beat where the language of the ‘songs’ where set in time with the rhythm and was used to depict the mood of the historical story. Also in the same tribes they had their own individual words for certain things in their life style that others with a different history wouldn’t understand like the ojobwa word “assiniboin” which literally translates as ones who cook using stones or “Peoria” which refers to carrying a pack on his back. Both these words relate to their history of hunter gathers and of travelling over the land carrying their few belongings and wouldn’t make sense if used to tell British history and so history is dependent on the language it is told in do define it and explain it properly and authentically. Maths and science as areas of knowledge although are taught and recorded in language they are comenly agreed on to have only one answer
Neurobiologist Mark Jude Tramo of Harvard Medical School states: “music is a biologically part of human life, just as music is aesthetically part of human life (Brewer).” This essay will explain why music is an indispensable part for a successful education. The three main arguments that support the thesis are that music lets an individual reach an optimal states of mind, enhances creativity and helps one to develop skills that are vital for the learning process. Through out history, for thousands of years people have sung for enjoyment and to ease the burdens of work, family and society. This has been true for all cultures around the world. In the middle ages workmen used songs, poems and even rhymes to ease the work and be able to build all the great medieval cathedrals (MacDonald).
What does music mean to anyone? To me music is like a life line. I listen to all kinds of music but my favorite would have to be country music. I grew up listening to people like Dolly Parton, George Strait and Garth Brooks. County music is a music that people can relate to.
