Eight Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty-Seven Miles
In the clouds on top of the ocean, more than a thousand miles away from home, I was a twelve years old little kid that was about to go on a big adventures. A tear in everyone’s eyes came out as they saw me walked to the gate, with a suitcase full of clothes. As I walked away, I finally realized this was going to be the last time that I would get to see my parents. I walked into a plane full of people; it shocked me that I was about to fly a thousand miles over the ocean to a new home that I never lived in before. A new chapter of my life was about to begin here at the land of freedom called United States of America.
After a long twenty-four hours flight the plane finally landed. I walked out and saw a clear bright sky full of happiness. The new chapter of my life about to begin, I followed my brothers to go get my suitcases and find our host-parents. I was nervous wreck because I hardly spoke English back then. I also did not know how to speak Spanish because my host-parents are Hispanic, and most of the time they speak Spanish. As soon as I grabbed my suitcases my brothers called my names. I heard his voice, but I could not find him. I followed his voice until I finally found him. I saw two people standing right behind him. It was the most shocking moment of my life when I saw a big Hispanic family stand behind my brother. I felt butterflies in my stomach; I didn’t know which language I should speak to them. I had to challenge myself to learn to speak English and how to speak Spanish in a month.
In the first twenty-four hours, I was so excited to see my new house and meet new people; while my host-parents drove me and my brothers to our new home, I fell asleep on the way there but when I got up I looked out of my window.
