From the day of 15th August 1947 when India attained independence every citizen of the country expected that the country would awake to life and freedom. The hope of millions of people over half a century proved contrary. The vision of India being a developed country within a short time was completely shattered. The country witnessed decades of despotism, hypocrisy, dynastic ruling and unethical practices. Majority of legislators, administrators, judiciaries and bureaucrats became greedy and were accustomed to more abuse of power. The consequences of all these plethora of malpractices resulted in spiralling inflation, rampant corruption, policy paralysis and very poor management and co-ordination among various departments of organisations. The divide between rich and poor also increased. Even though the country became a major player in world economy it as a whole remained excruciatingly poor. It witnessed low levels of literacy and life expectancy and high levels of corruption and pollution. Vote bank politics, dynasty based politicians, division of voters on basis of caste, religion and tribe, legislators having criminal records and black money usage for election funding ruined the political domain. Reservations in jobs, political interference on key issues, poor vigilance on government officials and red tapism hindered the central government and public sector companies to expand and generate revenues by increasing their market capitalisation. Many of the private companies expanded through crony capitalism. A very vicious nexus between politicians, babus and big industrialists had been formed. They looted important national resources and caused enormous losses to the exchequer. The judiciary became sluggish because the victims who seeked justice didn’t get at a speedy rate. ”Justice delayed is justice denied”.
