Many things can be said about our society and its values placed on us today. The biggest culprit is the media. For example, nauseating amounts of endless television commercials, magazines, newspaper ads; even reaching out through radio projecting the newest fads and trends and the must haves they shoved down our throats everyday due to the creative efforts of advertising. Again, the implications placed on us by society and our own willingness to live beyond our financial means can influence how we value money and how society tells us we should keep up with the newest products placed on the market. The push for consumption causes us to value money to the extreme. Media through things such as the internet globalization, and social communication remains the most effective comprehensive tool influencing function within contemporary society. It traces advertising's influence within three key social domains: the new commodities industry, popular culture, and the mass media that manages the constellation of images that unifies all three. There is no mistaking that modern day society is greatly influenced by mass media every day, and in many different forms. Many of these are usually depended on and included in personal lives, being utilized for entertainment, work, communication, and education as far as news and information gathering. Marketing is a series of systems used by companies to communicate the value of a product or service to customers. Marketing might sometimes be interpreted as the art of selling products, but selling is only a small fraction of marketing. It is an overall strategy to promoting a product or service. Sales are a key part of marketing, in media manipulation terms it is a way of matching producers and consumers.
