Student Exchange Program to National University of Singapore

It was my great honor to represent IIT Roorkee at National University of Singapore as an SEP student. After matching of my curriculum with the curriculum at NUS and registration at IIT Roorkee I left for Singapore on 9th Jan, 2008. Due to some delay in my flight I reached Singapore on 10th Jan, 2008. I was welcomed by a welcome buddy from NUS at the airport. She informed me of further official formalities to be fulfilled and guided me through them. My hostel allotment was already done and room keys were handed over to me just by filling a simple form. The day was spared to us to settle down in the place. Next day we were invited by Mrs. Kang Bee Hua for a get-together party and we were introduced about NUS. An orientation program was also held to introduce all the exchange students about NUS. It was followed by several other orientation programs and get-together parties. We were introduced to the various clubs at NUS and were invited to join the various activities held by them. I took part in the Trekking club, Hindu Club and also took part in several other activities. I also joined the foreign students club which promoted meets between the students from various countries to promote cultural exchange.

As the studies began we soon became accustomed to the study pattern out there. I took a total of 8 modules with 2 of them as audit. The teaching scheme in the NUS classrooms was quite different from the one in IITR. The class size was huge and comprised of approx. 250 students. The teaching was done by power point presentations which were available for download at the intranet. This kind of teaching scheme had its pro’s and cons. The teaching scheme was quite involved as beside theory and practical, subjects were loaded with many fun-filled minor projects.
