It was the perfect day to visit the ocean for the first time. The city is surrounded by tall, thick, green trees; slowly changing color to yellow and orange. As a child, every fall, my parents would take me and my siblings camping.

Recently, I have travelled to New York City and, on another vacation, to Myrtle Beach. There are similarities and differences between the two of these places. Picture a beautiful city surrounded by tall skyscrapers soaring into the clouds and the beautiful statue of liberty standing still on the water. You walk down the street passing rushing people late for work, hundreds of little shops and restaurants line the streets, and all the while you are taken back by the incredible wonder of the city and the people that you are gazing upon. Now picture lying on the white sandy beach at sunset listening to the ocean waves crash up on the
Keeping in mind the Oyster Pub is well known for their seafood, I ordered a dozen steamed clams served with melted butter, fresh lemons, and cocktail sauce. The small rather chewy clams were dry and unappetizing, leaving my mouth with a bitter taste. My sister was tossed between the steamed sampler including snow crab legs, oysters, shrimp and clams served with Cole slaw and the medium Buffalo style wings. Avoiding the seafood she chose the wings that looked like they were sitting in the kitchen window for forty-five minutes before being served. The pasty textured sauce drenched the chicken wings making the entrée look inedible.

I visited Fijian, German, Filipino, Polynesian, Serbian, Polish, Russian, Scottish, Ukrainian, Thai, Italian, and Vietnamese tents. The very first thing that came to mind when witnessing the Folk Fair was Disney’s Epcot. In my opinion, one of the best things about different cultures is the food, so I obviously couldn’t wait to taste the heritage. I was slightly disappointed to realize that I’ve tasted most of what as offered, until I ran into the Germans. A German man made me what seemed like a cinnamon apple pancake, and it was paradise in my mouth.
