As a child, every fall, my parents would take me and my siblings camping. Dad worked a lot, so we counted down the days of summer, until we got to be together. Every breath I took was like I was inhaling my childhood. I could hear the waves bouncing off the rocks as we sat on the patio and had lunch. The smell of the water and the warmth that touched my skin, when the sun peeked through the clouds, took me back in time to the campground.
Here’s what I’ve learned. Peacock day geckos eat insects, nectar, and fruits. Peacock day geckos are one of the most beautiful day geckos. They live in the tropical forests of Madagascar. My lizard can grow to be about four and a half inches long. They are also brightly colored and have skin that can be damaged easily in the rainy season.
Raymond’s Conviction As I woke up to the sun shining in my face on a beautiful Friday, I was ready to enjoy the wonderful summer weather that North Charleston had to offer. My daily routine consisted of taking a shower, lunch, and playing outside. Mama worked twelve hour shifts so she had already left for work at about 6:15 a.m. I was always in the house alone, but never once felt neglected or took advantage of my twelve hours of freedom. All of my siblings were older than me and moved out of mama’s house so I almost felt like an only child.
The flooring of the staircases were made of wood and hand railings were black painted metal that were cold to the touch. Any sound created would echo and be carried up through the staircase and reverberate throughout the hallways leading into the classrooms. There was no air conditioning, poor ventilation, and the little insulation in the building, so the early fall and late springs were always humid and muggy while winters were always dry and chilly. All the classrooms were an average size of twenty square feet. Because there were no lockers, all of the student’s belongings were stored in small wooden desks and their coats and backpacks were hung on wooden coat hangers on the hallway coat racks.
And it had seemed like it hadn't been used on the lake in ages. Being the wild childs we are, we decided we'd have a little fun and go canoeing in it. There were no canoe paddles in it and neither one of us had paddles so we had to compromise. Next to the dock was a pile of sticks from a tree that was cut down, so we replaced the paddles with the biggest sticks we could find in the pile. Mayra, Brittany, Kiah, and I each
I was born on April 9 th of 1991 in Oxnard California and have spent most of my life living here. Growing up here, I see how much Oxnard has grown and expanded over the years. It is nestled right between Camarillo and Ventura, which brings together culture and different diversities. Oxnard may not be the most high class city but is more in the middle. The good I see in Oxnard is that we are right by the beach, so that gives us beautiful comfortable weather almost everyday.
For the last 17 years I have spent summers with my dad in Utah and the rest of the year with my mom in Florida. My part-time Mormonism usually began the first weekend after the last day of school. I remember my brother and I being so excited to fly to Utah because the summer would kick-off with a big family reunion camping trip. During those summers, I was Mormon and everything we did revolved around the
The hundreds of friends that I had, dwindled down to about ten or so that I keep in touch with on a regular basis. Even though it wasn’t fun finding this out at first, this is something that really helped me realize what a true friendship was. The true friendships that I made while I lived there I still have to this day, even though there is a distance of thousands of miles. Yet, through all this, one of the greatest things that influenced me is the summer when I moved to Virginia. I had absolutely no one here that I knew, I spent that whole summer by myself, but in all reality there was someone there all along.
Growing up, I didn’t make friends easily and was shy around people. I used to love to play outside and explore mountain hills on horseback. I hunted with my father and sailed and swam with my mother. There was a rumor that I chopped down my dad’s cherry tree, which by the way, is not true. I loved my father and would never disobey him.
Running Head: REFLECTION ESSAY Reflection Essay Geog 200 October 27, 2012 Living in New Mexico is something I never thought would ever happen. I am originally from Georgia where we have an abundance of tall trees, green grass, lakes, rivers, and woods to stroll in on a daily basis. New Mexico is a very beautiful place if you give it time to grow on you. After living here for seven years I have come to call it home, whether I like the idea of it or not it has become a reality for me. One of the best scenery spots that my family and I have come to enjoy would be Sandia Crest.
