I guess I was blind to see how teachers have to teach and how they teach. Back in my day when I went to school teachers cared and tried to keep the students from not being bored and keep us engaged. Now that both my girls are in school. I think it’s bad for the teachers and the students cause all they have is test after test that last for weeks just to prove where our kids stand with the rest of the nation or in the county. Work Sited John Taylor Gatto.
In the documentary, “A Class Divided” filmed in 1970, a third grade teacher in Iowa named Jane Elliot did something that I felt was so amazing, during a time period that most might consider risky. She divided her class by the color of their eyes and came up with very clever ways to make them feel discriminated against. Watching the short film, about how she taught her class the lesson of discrimination, which was prompted by the death of Martin Luther King, is just fascinating! At first I was writing down everything I could to be able to reference my notes later, to write this paper. Suddenly I just stopped writing and really got into the lesson as though I was in the classroom with them.
Meanwhile back at home his family still spoke to their children in English to help them better understand how important it was to learn it. Listening to the other kids run up and down the street and speak English and it made him Feel worse than he already felt which made him more anxious to learn. It was painfully obvious that Richard was having a hard time speaking in public which was why he never spoke up in class. One day in class he came over his shyness and raised his hand to give an answer in a loud voice and to his surprise the whole class understood what he had
We’ve all seen the typical classroom, rows of desks and chairs, a blackboard w/ chalk and educational posters. In my opinion, classrooms are very bleak and boring places of learning. Students sit for an hour a day trying to comprehend what the teacher at the front of the board is writing and trying to explain. At some point in that long hour they zone out into their own little world and forget by the time the bell rings what they were supposed to learn. John Holt writes in his essay “School Is Bad for Children,” explains “We need to get kids out of the school buildings, give them a chance to learn about the world at first hand.” (Holt, pg.67.)
Gatto says that school diminishes creativity; if anything kids discover their hidden creativeness in class while at school. He also says that kids are not able to advance in higher learning. When clearly, kids are able to follow the teacher and be able to get A's while the subjects get more extreme. Gatto says, "teachers tend to blame the kids, as you might expect"(pg. 683) from personal experiences I can say that I have had great relationships with my teachers throughout elementary school and especially High school.
What made this school stand out from other schools was that not only do you have the regular elementary school naptimes and classes, but your parents get to assign you a particular language to be in. Unfortunately, I moved and was pulled out of the school after finishing my 3rd grade year. In the 4th and 5th grade I started at Taylor Schools and went to McDowell Elementary School and once again I moved to where I am currently, Southgate. I have lived in Southgate ever since then. In the 6th grade, I was starting middle school and this was where I truly discovered my love for music.
There I attended Johnson Primary School. When I had left my previous grade school, I was excelling in every subject and absolutely loved school. I quickly began to hate school once I started at Johnson Primary. The children at Johnson Primary were learning math in a different way than I had been taught. Although I was getting the correct answers, they believed that I was figuring out the
The janitor, who is the narrator of the story, observes all the obstacles that the school and students have faced over time. The school has many problems to deal with such as, holes in the wall, broken bathrooms and unreliable staff and students. Miss Sun comes to teach at this school in hopes to help these kids succeed and realize their full potential. The educational system that is put into play throughout the story is meant to highlight all the mistakes that stop children from advance learning in today’s educational system. The environment that Miss Sun and her students walk into everyday has turned into a prison instead of a learning place.
When I was in high school I experienced a bad teacher in English, then that following year I had an excellent English teacher. The bad English teacher kept to the same old ways of teaching by requiring us to memorize boring vocabulary words, and work out of the Text book to learn grammar. We would walk in and she would tell the assignment and then we would barely hear her speak throughout the remainder of the classroom period. My classmates and I dreaded going to this class everyday and most of us had very poor grades resulting from

I was new to the competition, which made me nervous and somewhat intimidated by the other kids. I arrived at school, where the competition was being held and quickly reviewed some of the words for the competition. As time went by both judges and students arrived one at a time, with students having high hopes of winning. We all walked inside the auditorium and glancing at the wall, I saw quite possibly the worst painting I’ve ever seen, it looked like a robot with fairly diminutive hands and lengthy fingers.
