An Overview on My Personal Philosophy of Nursing
The basis of this paper is to look into the personal nursing philosophy I have conceptualized while exploring my beliefs and values in my nursing career. I plan to convey why I choose this profession and what I believe the core of nursing is and what it should be. I believe the nature of nursing is rooted in commitment to public service and the undeniable desire to help those in need. Nursing is more than treating an illness; rather it is focused on delivering quality patient care that is individualized to the needs of each patient
My philosophy of nursing incorporates the knowledge of medicine while combining it with relational, compassionate caring that respects the dignity of each patient. My philosophy is one that focuses on the empowerment each patient in the delivery of holistic nursing care. This paper will explore the values I feel are necessary in relating to patients, their loved ones, health professionals, and my own health. I bring forth my vision of my nursing future career and the goals I hope to achieve as I continue to embark in my education.
Choice of Nursing Growing up in the Philippines I have seen a lot of people in various backgrounds and I know how life sometimes can be unpredictable. Becoming a nurse is not a case of randomized selection of a future profession. This dream dates back to my childhood. When I was younger I always felt the need to care for those who were sick, suffering, and who was in need. I am the second oldest of 4 girls and the only one that was not born with a disability. All born with dwarfism, they were prone to being sick and hospitalized multiple times. I grew up taking in the responsibility of helping my mother take care of them during those hard times.
