Philosophy of Student Discipline. Introduction. The Great Mahatma Gandhi once said, “ Discipline makes a nation great”. Quite true, indeed. In my opinion Discipline coupled with good education and awareness makes a good citizen. Right from the time of our birth till our death we need to maintain a certain degree of discipline. As an educator, to me discipline is a training which manifests character or pattern of behaviour together with moral and mental improvement. Indiscipline should have ramifications so as to ensure better character in an individual. My Philosophy of discipline. Over the years, discipline and punishment have gone successfully together and if divided serve different purposes. Being an educator, I will also incorporate these two strategies individually and collectively whenever needed. Managing and controlling the classroom is one of the biggest challenges a teacher will face. Therefore for me, understanding this and successfully constructing a successful philosophy of discipline would ultimately be my first priority. To establish this, I will make it known to all of my students the rules of my class, my expectations for them academically and their behavior. Talking about framing rules, I would encourage my students to participate in formulating the rules based on their ideas and ensure that it is strictly followed accordingly. All students shall be treated equally and all deadlines, rules and guidelines enforced swiftly. I will model the respect and cooperation I expect to receive from my students when dealing with the class in its entirety or with students individually. If and when a problem does arise I will follow the structured course of action manufactured by the students and myself pertaining to disciplinary infractions. It is my hope that this will build a bridge of mutual respect for everyone involved in the classroom which
