My plan as a RN nurse is to hit the floor running to bring out the potential in others, awaken people’s spirit, help others overcome obstacles while caring for them, build relationships, and bring joy to others. I will transfer from the nursing unit to the main hospital that is slated to open up in 2014. I have support from the staff at the hospital and there are many opportunities I plan to take advantage of.
My first year as a RN, I will transition from the nursing unit as a LPN to the medical surgical floor at the new Wellstar Hospital slated to open in 2014. I have great support from the nursing staff. I was informed that they are only hiring BSN nurses and the ASN nurses they currently have will be transitioned to other departments such as, the long term care area. Knowing these changes will occur, opens up a great opportunity for me. I will take care of my family for they are my rock in having to tolerate with my existence and not my participation. So a deeeeep breath is needed! We will take a mini vacation because my education journey will not end at the bachelor’s level.
My second year will be focusing on acquiring a certification in Wound Care from an accredited WOCN program. The two schools I am interested in are Emory University School of Medicine Wound Ostomy and Continence Nursing Education Center or the webWOC Nursing Education Program. As a LPN, I was the treatment nurse for three years in a long term care rehab facility. I fell in love with doing it the moment I started. I love working with my hands. Observing and learning the processes in wound healing from minute to more complex, left me with the satisfaction that I was doing something for my patients with my hands. I will look forward to volunteering at the free clinics here in Georgia. In 2007, I visited one in Decatur and never got started partly due to feeling intimidated being a new nurse at that time and not possessing the skills...
