Every summer, since I was four I have swam for a summer swim club which is where I have spent all of my summers since then. The swim team has children ranging from ages four to eighteen. As an older member of the team it is our job to help and teach the younger children on the team. Which this is something I took very seriously and created a strong bond with mostly all of the younger children as I watch them grow swimming wise and as a person. One little girl, age 9 at the time, in particular who I became very close with, both swimming the same stroke, actually taught me something last summer.
I am an incoming freshman and also a recruit of Pat Hanlon’s for the 2011-2012 Oswego State Women’s Volleyball team. When making my decision for which college to attend, I was inspired by everything that the team had to offer. The team striked me as so welcoming, they had an enormous amount of chemistry while playing together, and were truly amazing ,enthusiastic individuals. After seeing one game, my decision to attend Suny Oswego was finalized. My mom and I attended a match last fall season and I felt such an amazing vibe from the girls.
She is now once again fit and feels good about herself. She has joined a gym and attends the gym 2-3 times a week, she participates in several walk a thons every year, and she has taken up salsa dancing. She says that although she loved sports before, her current leisure activities are very rewarding to her. She does say that it is much harder now to lose those extra pounds whereas before it would be very
Strirpe Junior Guard Stripe When I finished Junior High, I didn't know what to do. Somebody proposed to me to go to the Junior Lifeguard camp. I was interested in this camp, and agreed with this idea. So I went to this camp, and you know what, I had a lot of fun. It was the best summer of my life.
Some of the names that were appearing on the top of the charts surprised me. Who knew that the president of the math club had such a strong throwing arm? Is that my lab partner from freshman year passing every other player in sprints? These girls were working harder than any sports team I had been apart of. Amazingly, girls who had little history with each other were gathering together during breaks, laughing and encouraging teammates.
As an example, Loke was nervous about joining the swim team at school, but did very well once encouraged. At age six, she had some trouble with math, but with some after school tutoring and fun-math related activities at home, she succeeded again. When Loke younger and her younger sister fought, they were each put into a separate room and required to remain there until they could play together peacefully. I believe that this parenting style was the best choice for Loke and she has grown up well because of
Try outs for the varsity tennis team are getting closer and closer. The anticipation for the start of the season is very high. The head coach’s daughter, Mary Turner, will be starting her second high school season with Lakeshore High. “I’m excited to get to work with my daughter again. It was awesome last year and I’m sure it will continue to grow our mother-daughter bond even more,” Tonya Turner, head coach, said.
Three years ago, I graduated from eighth grade and was super excited, yet a tab bit nervous to move forward to high school. What made me nervous the most was the work load, meeting new friends and also peer pressure. But despite all my fears, I thought “Hey, this would all my over at 3 o’clock.” So you can imagine what I thought that summer day, when my parents introduced Southland. “This will be a great experience for you! You’ll be the first graduating class, a great academic program, and also a nine hour school day..” (insert shocked face) This/that’s actually how my face looked!
After she “…finished all of the Red Cross lessons…” she joins the swim club and learns how to race. (Strutt 125) “I trained every day, back and forth in the pool…when I turned fourteen I trained twice a day, every morning at five-thirty and every evening at five.” (Strutt 125) A little older but still fairly young and she continues to demonstrate signs of strength and perseverance to accomplish what she wants. As she grows older and gets married to a man with a son, she takes the boy in as her own. On a family trip to the beach her step-son Ian is frantic about swimming in the ocean. “I didn’t really want to go because of the kind of water it was.
Gonzalez, Stephanie Blk. 3 September 23, 2010 How Stephanie Became Stephanie When we’re young, there’s always that one friend who is there to teach us the newest dance moves or to back you up when the bully of the school cuts in front of you for the water fountain. I had that friend. I feel she helped shaped me into the person I am today. She has influenced the development of my identity through obstacles and experiences she overcame or didn’t.
