My Favorite Food

MY FAVORITE FOOD I would have to say my favorite meal would be turkey on Thanksgiving. A well-prepared turkey meal starts with cooking from scratch. We slowly cook the turkey in the crock-pot or as my family calls it, the turkey cooker. The mash potatoes would be prepared with real potatoes and not from a box of flakes. We always have choice of white or brown gravy prepared with the juices from the turkey. A meal not prepared well, for example, would be going out to eat in a restaurant. One year, we went to Mimi’s in Brentwood to have Thanksgiving. I kept thinking to myself, how I am going to eat the food that I ordered. It would be rude to my grandparents, on my father’s side of the family, since they paid for it. That meal was horrible and tasted nothing like the home-cooked turkey meal that I was used to having at my grandmother’s house on my mother’s side. One Thanksgiving at grandma’s house was very special. I remember it very well even though it was about ten years ago. My Aunt Tricia was bringing her new boyfriend over for the first time. His Name was Roger and he was driving a Porsche when he pulled up in front of my grandmother’s house. When the food was ready later in the day, I happened to sit by Roger and spoke for a moment. I was trying to get a bit of turkey and was using the side of my fork to cut a piece of the turkey. I like my turkey with the mashed potatoes and gravy all mixed up on the plate, so the next thing that I know my fork slipped on the plate and that bite ended up right in my lap. I looked at Roger to see if he was looking, and he tried to hide the fact that he had seen what happened, but the smile on the corner of his lips and the look on his face spoke for him. I could tell he wanted to laugh but did not since he did not know us all that well yet. Therefore, I knew he had seen what happened, so we laughed together.
