Sirens and busy city sidewalks, yellow taxis and the subway, hot dog stands on every corner, Central Park covered in a blanket of snow, broadway and all of its glamour and the bright lights of Times Square are what comes to mind when I picture New York City. I have not traveled to New York yet but it is my favorite place in the world- a city that never sleeps, a city that stands alone, and a city that is cosmopolitan. There is no place like New York, which is why many people with different nationalities are living there. There are many Chinese living in New York and New York’s Chinatown is one of the biggest Chinatowns in the world however if you go around the world, you’ll find Chinatowns very similar to each other. There are many huge hotels over there and walking into these hotels is like walking into a magical land. They have amazing views that enable guests to see the beautiful city all light up at night. I think the best season to see the city is in the winter. Some years it is only 10 or 15 degrees out there but nobody cares about its temperature and people are still packed at times square . New York harbor was visited by Verrazano in 1524, and the Hudson River was first explored by Henry Hudson in 1609. The Dutch settled here permanently in 1624 and for 40 years they ruled over the colony of New Netherland. It was conquered by the English in 1664 and was then named New York in honor of the Duke of York. Existing as a colony of Great Britain for over a century, New York declared its independence on July 9, 1776, becoming one of the original 13 states of the Federal Union.
