In class we all as a whole had to read, "The Lord of the Flies", "The Catcher in the Rye", and "Macbeth". All of these books were amazing to read but when it came to writing the essays for them, I believe that my favorite and most interesting was "The Lord of the Flies", which is one of my favorite books to this day. "The Lord of the Flies" had such a brilliant story line and it kept me interested as I read on. Junior year was a big year for writing essays because of the two regents that were required that year for us. The regents for junior year was, the English Regents and the U.S. History regents.
Azinaide Vera Cruz ENG110 Steve Bookman September 4th, 2010 What are your experiences in writing classes? For the entirety of my High School life, I had the ability to successfully write an essay. On the whole, I felt that my writing skills was successful due to the fact that, I always wrote about exciting topics and the High School writing techniques were not so demanding. However, when I started college my writing expertise and experiences were not so pleasant. Fear and frustration are the first feelings that pop in my heart when I have to write a paper.
After reading ‘Superman and Me,’ the essay written by Sherman Alexie, one can’t help but feel inspired and get that warm feeling inside. My first reading experience was similar to Alexie’s comic in that it was a random piece of literature that was being read. The first thing I ever read was a Christmas letter from my grandma’s neighbor and unbenounced to my family, simply grabbed it and read it from beginning to end. If I didn’t know a word I made it up and kept reading as to not lose my rhythm. For as long as I can remember, I have always been advanced for my grade in my reading abilities but the problem I cross in regards to reading is the interest level.
The Many Aspects of English 112 English 112 has been an interesting, and challenging experience for me. From the demanding amount of work listed on the syllabus, reading from the textbook, and Mr. Smith himself, I have learned a lot from my first semester in college. Although there have been many positive experiences along the way, I feel there are a few areas that could use improvement to help students be more successful in English 112. On the first day of class I was given a syllabus, which was an outline of topics, and assignments the class would cover during the semester. The syllabus included: chapters from the textbook, in class essays, grammar exercises, a final exam, and a research paper.
in my paper, I will write about my accomplishments, routine writings, and major strengths and how they help develop my writing skills today. All of the accomplished writing I produced came from papers I had to turn in for class. Some of them were research, others opinion, or reviews on books I had to read. The research papers were generally the hardest. These papers took the most effort, time, and reviewing.
It was a long time before I realized if I wanted to do better for myself, I would have to take the initiative read to educate and become knowledgeable. Once I got married and had my own child it seemed my dream of becoming a lawyer would never come to be. But I became more in my child’s eyes I was not only her mother but a teacher. I was able to pass on the stories my mother shared with me, as well as many other stories. I also passed along the passion to read and write.
As he went on with his reading journey, he later on stumbled upon the case of Dr. Sam Sheppard who was all over the papers of Cleveland at that time. The story of the Sheppard murder inspired Bullock to write more. Bullock's essay tells us about what motivated him to love to read and write. He shows to us that because of the great influence his grandmother has done to him, he has become in to someone perfectly shaped for a good future. As a child my parents were very involved with my learning process.
It was worth every question and worksheet to where I am now. I have had a great year and was faced with many challenges but all in all I did a pretty good job and improved all my English skills hugely. I’ve always been a good reader through school but even my reading skills improved this year. We read a selection of great books that have helped me understand big concepts. I felt that Night by Elsie Wesile and Anthem by Alice Hoffman should be taught next year because they were the most interesting and had the most impact on me as the reader.
Kaitlyn Stevens Mr. Scott Reed ENGL 0003.001 19 July 2011 Overcoming my distractions Throughout my years of education, I have had to overcome many obstacles. I have found a few distractions along the way that led to me getting off track. What has distracted me in my college nursing experience is having too much homework at one time and not being able to manage my time well enough. On top of all my homework, I also had to learn to manage my athletics in with getting my work done on time. After all my homework and cheer activities are completed, my personal entertainment was also a big challenge for me to overcome.
I’ve had an experience in which the minutes I took weren’t written effectively, therefore everyone ended up going in different directions & then had to meet again for the same original purpose. Whereas if the meeting minutes are written well, everyone gets the same notes and are all on the same page. Everything that I’ve learned in school and even on my job has helped me in my adult life to be able to write resumes, cover letters, applications, etc. Even in my personal life as a mom, everyday my son comes to me for pen and paper. Because He’s only 23 months, He scribbles all over the paper but I still feel that it’s my obligation as a parent to take his hand and guide him.
