My Experience’s with Writing

Over the course of the years, I have had many experiences with writing. Academic writing has always been simple for me as long as I had the freedom to choose what I wrote about. Writing has been like a rollercoaster ride. Elementary school, high school and my personal writing are at the top of the rollercoaster, and college writing is at the top plummeting down to the bottom through an upside down loop. When it came time for me to go to college it became stressful, challenging, and frustrating. My perspective on writing started to change. The expectations in college were set to a higher level, and there was a variety of different writing that I wasn’t used to. My very first experience with writing was in elementary school. The teacher allowed me to write on any topic of my choosing. I chose to write about my dog Oreo, that had died the year prior. Oreo’s death was significant, especially at such a young age. Telling my own true story came easy to me. The pencil hit the paper, and before I knew it I was finished. Looking back I can still remember reading my story over and over. It was an accomplishment that I was proud of. This is when I really started to enjoy writing. High school came next, and writing had become all about research papers. Still, like in elementary school I was able to make my own decisions on the topic I wanted to write about. Writing a research paper on a topic that I was interested in, like abortion and why I agreed or disagreed, was intriguing to me. Plus, if I chose to write a research paper on a topic I was unfamiliar with I could learn about it by searching the Web or going to the library. Writing was my favorite subject, and I always got at least an A or a B. At that point in my life, academic writing still wasn’t something that I struggled with.
