Team player Section: Fitness & Exercise Being part of a sports team means more than increasing your strength, stamina, and skills. The physical benefits of playing sports are extremely important. But being on a sports team also can help sharpen interpersonal skills and give you practice in coping with stress and anxiety. Being a part of drill team has helped me with control by helping others in learning routines or chants with taking charge when others do not. I learned that although I am young, I am in control of my own progress, and I am the one who can change situations for better or for worse. The biggest impact my drill team experience has given me, is determination to push myself to achieve. Without the heart or skill to do something there is no progression. This experience describes the dedication I have to go to college because it showed me I am capable of handling the challenges it may offer.

It is very important for a coach to have a philosophy about what he or she wishes to accomplish and what they want their athletes to accomplish along with the winning. Although the benefits of teaching and coaching can be questioned by many all it takes is that former or current athlete showing up one day and saying, “Coach thanks for all you have done for me, I couldn’t have done it without you.” and your ready to get going all over again. The levels of coaching that I hope to coach someday will be elementary all the way up to High School. I need to be around our club wrestling team at a young age, this will help teach the kids the things they need to know at an early age. It will also help build a powerhouse team by the time they get to high school.
In the years before I just played to have fun. Now I play to win and to hopefully get myself a scholarship to play in college. I would not have rather gone through this high school volleyball experience with any other group of girls. I have built so many friendships that could last a lifetime. But I want to point one girl out that has left a huge impact on my life.

Watching Kobe play basketball during the 2010 NBA playoffs made me want to try out for my high school basketball team. I decided that I was going to dedicate that summer to emulate Kobe. Just like Kobe, I was fueled to be the best. I had that same internal fire burning within me and the same drive that was going to propel me onto a varsity basketball roster. It is common knowledge that the fear of failure is what drives Kobe to his infinite pursuit of excellence.
I am an incoming freshman and also a recruit of Pat Hanlon’s for the 2011-2012 Oswego State Women’s Volleyball team. When making my decision for which college to attend, I was inspired by everything that the team had to offer. The team striked me as so welcoming, they had an enormous amount of chemistry while playing together, and were truly amazing ,enthusiastic individuals. After seeing one game, my decision to attend Suny Oswego was finalized. My mom and I attended a match last fall season and I felt such an amazing vibe from the girls.
The reason I am a Kinesiology major is because I want to study the field of coaching and teaching fitness to our youth within the public school system. The reason I choose coaching is because when I was growing up I would get into a lot of trouble as a kid. Coming from a single parent household, I needed to find a positive way out of trouble so I got into sports of all kinds. I played soccer, flag football, basketball, and baseball. The three sports I fell in love with the most was football, baseball, and basketball.
It is there that they are mentored, coached and practice for hours to be the best. For most, that is where the dreams also end. As NCAA television commercials remind us, most college athletes will become professional in something other than sports. Many youth begin dreaming and playing sports at a very early age. Parents are willing
