My Career as a CPA The career path I have chosen to follow is in the Accounting field. I am on the way to achieving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Certified Public Accounting. I love working with numbers. I am a very organized person. I have worked in the field in my past and have decided to get a college degree and push forward and make a “career” out of it. CPA’s generally have their own business or work for public accounting firms. “They help ensure that firms run efficiently, public records are kept accurately, and taxes paid properly and on time.” (http://www.bls.gov/oco/pdf/ocos001.pdf) Most jobs require a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. I will have to finish here at CCC with Associates in Applied Science in Business Administration. I may have to go to work after CCC, but that will give me work experience. I do plan on transferring to a University as soon as possible to achieve the Bachelor’s Degree. I am thinking it will take me another four years to accomplish. The average starting salary for entry-level accountants at public accounting firms with no experience or license earn up to $51,500. Starting pay can be as low as $40,700 for graduates. Most states do require that graduates work under a licensed Certified Public Accountant prior to receiving their license. (Vitez, 2010) There are many benefits to obtaining a CPA degree. CPA’s are a vital part of any strong business. Most accounting jobs have strict requirements because of the technical nature of the different positions. (Vitez, 2010) CPA’s are valued and respected and have many opportunities for promotions, travel, and personal growth. “You could say that CPA stands for “Commitment, Professionalism, Achievement” just as much as it stands for Certified Public Accountant.
