What is your approach to problem solving and how does it work for you? Use specific details to support your response. People are confronted with problem solving all the time. While some of the challenges that we are facing have easy solutions, others require a certain degree of knowledge and skills. I like to think that I am quite good at solving various problems, although I have different approaches to different kinds of problems. In my every day life, I often encounter problems that tend to repeat every now and then. For example, since i am not driving, every morning I have to decide which way of transportation I will use in order to go to work. I can take a bus, a taxi or if I wake up early enough, I can even walk to the hospital where I work as a physician. Solving such problems is generally easy because it relies on commonsense. However, there are instances when I am faced with more difficult situations. Sometimes I have to treat difficult patients that require many medical investigations and test my medical skills. In such cases I sometimes chose to ask the advice of more experienced and specialized physicians about the diagnostic or the treatment of my patient. Although I may have in mind a solution to the problem, I believe that having a second opinion is better for the health of my patient. Occasionally I find myself facing a very unusual situation, when problem solving seems impossible. I can recall a time when I got stranded during a vacation in India while trying to take a flight back home. I missed my flight and could not book another ticket for a whole week. As thre was nothing more to do, I decided to "go with the flow" and not struggle to find at any cost a way to get back home. Instead, I started enjoying every one of the events that followed.
