Renaissance Comparison Essay The indication of Italian culture and rebirth from the medieval era began with the transformations that transpired throughout the Italian Renaissance. Society was shifting and the modern world was at its beginning. Italian values and characteristics were transferred out of Italy and into Europe created the Northern European Renaissance this was the renaissance activity that was identified outside of Italy. “Renaissance” is a French word meaning “rebirth.” The Renaissance period started in the early 14th century and continued into late 16th century. This era is known and studied for great cultural changes, literature, art, music, and successes in Europe.
Another similarity is that both regions had a city that was the center of the art world where artist flocked to practice their crafts and confer with other artists. In Italy the artistic city was Florence and for Northern Europe area it was Flanders. A final similarity between the two Renaissance periods being compared is that both regions had access to the modern technology of printing presses. This permitted the creation of more books than ever before. The Renaissance, for the Italians, was a rebirth of the classical learning of ancient Rome and Greece, and Florence’s leaders created an atmosphere that permitted all forms of the arts to flourish.
He started his career when he was hired by the Esterhazy family, giving him the chance to write and compose symphonies and conduct orchestras. Also known as the Father of the Symphony or String Quartet, he invented the idea of sonatas (History Reference Center 1). Haydn was an ideal man of the Enlightenment. He had a great sense of humor, and loved playing jokes on his friends.

The Classical Spirit as Portrayed in Amadeus Before you can understand what role Mozart played in developing the classical spirit, you must first learn what this spirit entailed. During the Classical era, arts were a flourishing centerpiece of cities. Many have dubbed the seventeenth and eighteenth century the Age of Enlightenment. This was time of great change brought on my great minds from all around the world. This era gave birth to some of the most popular and distinguished pieces of art from all of western civilization.
Many individuals were gifted with artistic skill and creativity. I will talk about how the Mediterranean influenced the Northern Artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Peter Paul Rubens, Simon Vouet and Anthony van Dyck. I will pick one famous piece of each and explain how they used Baroque or Italian features. Albrecht Dürer was born May 21, 1471 in the Franconian city of Nuremberg, one of the artistic and commercial centers in Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries. He was a painter, draftsman and writer but his greatest artistic impact was in the medium of printmaking.
The two pieces of music that I enjoyed the most were: Historia de Jepthe by Carissimi and Battle of Jericho by Moses Hogan. The Historia de Jepthe was written by Giacomo Carissimi. Carissimi was one of the most prominent composers in Italian music of the 17th century. Giacomo Carissimi was born in Marino near Rome. In 1622 he became a singer at the Cathedral of Tivoli.
“It directly reflected the changing economic scope and cultural ideals of the European population that arose in the 14th Century” (White, 2009). Most of the works were of religious situations such as the last supper and religious people such as Jesus and the Apostles (White, 2009). Many excellent artists came from this period. A few notable ones are Leonardo Da Vinci. Leonardo painted the Last Supper in the late 15th century and this piece has become very well known, even to those that are not art lovers (Renaissance Art, N.D.).

The renaissance brought on individualism, economic expansion and stability. During the early stages of the Italian Renaissance Florence, Italy was the center of attention (sort of speak). One family dominated the early times and helped place Florence at the epicenter for all forms of art. The Medici family came in to power by establishing banks all over Europe.
Many people devoted a lot of time and effort into making these times so good. From King John to Thomas Aquinas, many people playing very different roles were able to make this such a progressive era. Religion played a great deal of influence on the high middle ages and although many movements and orders were being derived from Catholicism it remained the religious victor of the high middle ages through the success of the Crusades and the Inquisition. Another reason why this era was so rich would have to be the advancement of philosophical reasoning. One of the top philosophers of this time was Thomas Aquinas.
