The movie has some very interesting narrative elements. The plot is about a man who is wrongly convicted of the murder of his wife and her lover. He is sentenced to serve out a life sentence at Shawshank Prison. The movie is set during the years of 1947-1966 and follows his experiences once he arrives at the prison. In act one, although Andy profusely claims his innocence, he is convicted anyway and sent to Shawshank.

After serving a period of time there is a scene in the cafeteria where inmates are discussing what they are in for and each one says that they are innocent, except for Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding, who says that he is the only guilty inmate in Shawshank. Tommy is a younger inmate in Shawshank who has served time in other prisons. Tommy and Red were talking and Tommy asked what Andy was serving time for; Red replied for the murder of his wife and her lover, some golf pro. The next scene shows Tommy, Red, and Andy together in the library. Tommy tells them that about 4 years ago he was serving time in another prison and he got a cell mate who told him about going to some hotshot guy’s house to rob it and the guy woke up and he shot him and his woman.

Malcolm was paroled after serving 7 years. While in prison Malcolm spent the first few months in solitary confinement.

The movie “12 angry man“ is about the discussion of a jury that has to decide about the destiny of an 18 year old man who is accused to have murdered his own father. The delinquent has an immigrant background and grew up under difficult family circumstances in the slums. He has a long criminal record and at first sight all the facts seem to support that he committed the crime. If the jury comes to the conclusion that there is no reasonable doubt about the guiltiness of the young man he will receive a lifelong sentence in prison and eventually even the death penalty. At the beginning of the jury discussion an initial vote reveals that 11 jurors think the delinquent is guilty and only juror 8 votes for not guilty.
