In many societies, women have become a major art of the workforce and today many women hold management positions. In my opinion, this is a positive development. However, few women have reached the very top, shown by the fact that less than four in every hundred directors are women. This can be demonstrated by careers that are traditionally seen as female such as nursing, where men still gold the top jobs.wjobs.women seem to reach middle management positions and go no further. In my essay, I will expand upon the reasons for this then move on to my conclusion. I think that the culture of working long hours makes it difficult for women to reach senior positions.wpositions. When women ask for more flexible working hours to keep their job and look after their family, their commitment to the company is questioned. In many workplace there is a culture of presenteeism - that is you must be seen at work. An illustration of this is the person who does not want to go home on time and stays at work only to prove they are there. However, this is not the case in many European countries where not leaving work on time is seen as a sign of I efficiency. This attitude also hurts men for instance men with young families who would rather leave work on time and spend time with their children.dchildren. Due to this lack of women in top management levels, some companies could be missing important business skill in today's global economy. If we consider that women are better communicators, better at for example forming relationships and netwnetworks of people, these are exactly the skills that a successful company needs in a globalised world. In conclusion, I believe that it is not good for companies to keep women in junior or middle management positions as they have valuable skills that are not being used for the wrong reasons.
