Moral Recovery Filipino culture is rich in moral values such as faith and religiosity, heroism, hospitality, bayanihan, genuine love for the family, work dedication, etc. Also, Filipinos possess qualities like sipag at tiyaga, perseverance, creativity, among others. Moreover, Filipinos are maka-bayan and maka-kalikasan aside from being maka-Diyos and maka-tao. In other words, there are core values instilled among us Filipinos which keep us still existing as one and free nation. Sad to say, we, private citizens and public servants alike, also possess weak characters which degrade our good Filipino reputations. If there are faithful, there are also unbelievers whose goal is to demolish the Church. In terms of heroism, today’s Filipino heroes, aside from the lowest members of the Armed Forces who devote their lives battling against NPA’s in the mountains, are the ordinary overseas workers who are battling against inhumane treatment in foreign lands. Filipino hospitality, on the other hand, has a new connotation while bayanihan nowadays remains popular only as an LGU’s mode of implementing small-scale infrastructure development projects at sitio level. Other positive characters of Filipinos are weakened by the advent of modernization which has caused remarkable impact to Filipino cultures. On the other hand, due to scarce opportunities in the land, self-centeredness among Filipinos which is tantamount to greediness is now common not only among private citizens but also among public officials and employees. In the guise of pakikipagkapwa-tao, those people in the government who have vested personal interest are usually warm in dealing with the public clientele not because of call of duty as public servant but for the purpose of establishing good rapport which rests upon personal gains either in politics, business transactions, and the like.
