Molex Case Study C. Michele Guy MGT 448 June 7, 2012 Cherlyn Conner Molex Case Study Molex is a 70-year-old global electronic components manufacturing company based in Chicago. Molex opened up their first overseas plant in Japan in 1970, and the second plant opened in 1971 in Ireland. Since opening up these locations, Molex revenues outside the United States has been 61 percent of their $1.84 billion revenues. Molex employs more than 16,000 people in 21 countries. The reason Molex has been such a success is their stance on the legal, cultural, and ethical issues. They way Molex handles these issues sets them apart from the competitors and has helped this company expand. The Human Resource Management department of Molex has been behind this success. Molex legal concerns were to make sure that they followed the legal policies of each of the countries that they interacted with. Making sure they had the laws of these countries and that they were followed was the Human Resources Management departments concern. The Human Resources Management team made sure they had a customized program for each country that met all the laws of that country. The cultural issues were a bit more challenging to handle because every person is different. When dealing with the cultural and ethical issues, the Human Resources Management team had to look at the different attitudes, lifestyles, and beliefs that presented themselves. Policies and programs were needed to cover all of the cultural and ethical issues. Molex hired experienced HRM personnel from other companies in the country they had operations. These individuals hired were familiar with the laws, culture, and how to hire in their respected countries. The host government played a major role in the operations of Molex.
