Media has an enormous impact on society, many argue whether media has a negative or positive effect on the lives of humans. From newspapers and advertisements to the radio, and TV, they are all filled with violence, stereotypes, sex and propaganda. What is viewed on TV, read in newspapers or heard on the radio has a great significance in how one acts and thinks in the real world. The development of a person can be based on what they view in the media and how ones brain reacts to the information gathered. Even children who play video games are retaining and forming views and ideas based on what they are playing, this is another way both adults and children are being affected by the media. It is agreeable that media has vast and negative influences on individuals all over the world. Without acknowledging it, people fail to notice that something as simple as TV viewing can lead to obesity. Especially when TV viewing begins at a young age, there is a higher risk of children becoming attached to it and gaining weight. Many become oblivious to the fact that they are overly sitting and watching TV while becoming couch potatoes. This results in a lot of weight gain without psychologically realizing it at the time. Violence in media highly influences ones behaviour. Violence can bring on aggressive thoughts, physical behaviour towards others and hostile emotions. Wrestling, violent shows, video games and music involving fighting and harsh vocabulary prompt people to imitate those behaviours. Decision making becomes weakened by the continuous use of violence and aggression patterns made in an individual’s life. Violence in film and TV also brings on fearful tendencies, especially in young boys.
