“The greater sin is not in being declared Wicked, but in accepting appearances of Goodness.” The Broadway Musical by Stephan Schwartz, Wicked, is a magnificent story with outstanding morals and lessons. I have had the honor of seeing this musical many times in several cities in the past five years that it has been released. This performance has given it’s audiences a new outlook on prejudice and that you can never judge a book by it’s cover. Nearly everyone has seen Frank Baum’s classic, The Wizard of Oz, at some time in his or her life. If they haven’t seen it they have surely heard the story that it holds.
In 1952, Shepherd Mead's satirical book, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, became a bestseller. Playwright Willie Gilbert and fellow playwright Jack Weinstock created a dramatic interpretation in 1955 that was unproduced for five years. [3] Agent Abe Newborn brought the work to the attention of producers Cy Feuer and Ernest Martin, with the intention of retooling it as a musical. [3] Feuer and Martin had great success with the 1950 adaptation of Guys and Dolls and brought in the creative team from that show to work on How to....[3] Abe Burrows and Frank Loesser set to work on the new adaptation, with rehearsals beginning in August 1961. [3] Burrows collaborated on the book with Jack Weinstock and Willie Gilbert, also serving as
This specific play is produced by a well-known playwright, Steve Martin. The play was originally written back in the year 1993, but has been put on by many different theatres across the world since then. The focus of this play is a spoof on how it would play out if there was somehow a meeting that occurred between Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein, one of the greatest artist and greatest thinkers ever. They are arguably two of the most influential people of the 20th century, and definitely help mold our world into what it is today. I think the topics and main themes and ideas can all be tied together into a single category because they all relate.
It eventually opened off-Broadway in 1970, and in 1971 made a brief jump to Broadway. Overall, the play enjoyed a very successful New York run of 819 performances. Zindel's portrayal of the painful side of family life struck a chord with audiences who found they could easily relate to the themes of loneliness and shattered dreams. The play was critically acclaimed and earned several awards, including an Obie Award for best play of the season (1970), the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for best American play of the year (1970), and the Pulitzer Prize for drama (1971). It was so popular that in 1972 Twentieth-Century Fox released a film version starring Joanne Woodward.
I loved Poor Little Eva, King Simon, Little Topsy, and Geoooo-rge!. Though it has been said “it wasn’t until they filmed it until they caught the delicacy, humor, and poignancy all at once” (Jerome Robbins: His Life, His Theatre, His Dance, pg 47) this paper will discuss the history of The King and I on Broadway. The King and I is one of the most well loved musicals of all time. With musical geniuses Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II writing the score, Jerome Robbins brilliantly choreographing “Small House of Uncle Thomas” and “Shall We Dance?” as well as many other dance sequences. Jo Mielziener was the set and lighting designer, Frederick Dvonch was the musical director, and Irene Sharaff was the costume designer.
Aida: The greatest Opera of its time Aida is an great example of a grand opera at its finest. The story is exciting the music is great and you wont be able to forget it after you see it. The opera Aida has been called as a timeless love story. Set 3,000 years ago in ancient Egypt, written in Italy around 1870, and performed today all over the world. Auguste Mariette wrote the original script that Verdi would later put to music.
Evaluation of Wicked The performance I chose to evaluate is the musical Wicked. This was a spectacular performance done by 321 Theatrical Management Company. Anne Brummel and Natalie Daradich play the two main characters, Elphaba and Glinda. The Conductor of the wonderful show was Adam Souza. This musical performance of Wicked was fantastic.
They had a very unhappy marriage, and Anne died in the year 1588. When Edward was young, he spent most of his time in court, where he was favorite able. All of this proves that Edward grew up in a very rich, and intelligent environment, making him suitable to be the real author for shakespeares work. Many of the characters by shakespeare are very similar and connected to Edward de Vere’s life. Similarities between Edward de vere and characters like Hamlet is also very good proof to argue the authorship debate with.
REVIEW Ruthless is the musical which book and lyrics by Joal Pal, music by Marvin Laird. This play was directed by Ric Roberts and showed on Malcom Field Theatre for the Performing Arts on February 24 through 26, 7:30pm. I saw this amazing musical play on Saturday, Feb 26, 2011, and really enjoyed it. The music and lightening are fantastic, especially Tina’s “Born to entertain”, and it deeply caught my attention. There are eight female characters each with their own hope to become “the lead” in this play.
Ellie Grohoske Modern 4-14-13 The Pennsylvania Ballet Nutcracker This winter when I went home for break I saw the Pennsylvania Ballet perform their annual Nutcracker. It was my 5th time seeing this company performance from the audience, however I have been in over 50 performances total with this company performing various roles in The Nutcracker. I’m not sure why so many dancers hate this ballet, because it has always been my favorite ballet since I was little. It could be because it was the first ballet I ever saw before as a 3 year old, and that was what got me truly interested in dance. I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen George Balanchine’s Nutcracker, but I can tell you it will never get old, and always be a tradition that I look forward to every year during Christmas time.
