How Art Created Culture The function of art in society has been well-known to have many different advantages. Societies learn from art, they tell stories through art, they express ideas through art, and they create legends and icons through art. The power of visual human expression, in paintings, sculptures, and reliefs, moves individuals into thought and action. Even if one is not a visually creative mind, they are still inspired and influenced by the works of art that are commonly seen on a daily basis. The contents of the art, the color, style, and function, create feelings in the individual, create a belief structure, whether spiritual or intellectual.
Week 8: Art and/or Craft Tamarack’s Fine Arts Gallery has exhibited hundreds of West Virginia artists over the years. This fine arts gallery has allowed these unique and amazingly talented artists to showcase their works. Here’s the catch, would others throughout the country and the world consider Tamarack to be a Fine Arts Gallery? There is a good chance that many would consider the typical West Virginia stereotypes and presume that it could not possibly be a gallery of fine arts. Many could argue that it should be considered a gallery of craft.

The artist-scholar can spend years searching for understanding in each work. This understanding he seeks is not just of the scene he sees but of universal structure and himself within it. In turn, his discoveries surface in his brushwork, composition, and the spirit of his mountains, trees, water, and sky. It is no wonder, that the cannon for Chinese art remained among the literati painters over so many centuries. Through painting, one could reach a further understanding of Tao or rather repossess his ancestors knowledge of Tao.
Poster art in Lebanon dates back to the early sixties and extends till the late twentieth century. Although posters mainly announce individual painting and sculpture exhibitions, this collection includes group and theme art exhibits, plays and musical recitals, movies, conferences and environmental awareness posters. The art poster in Lebanon got a quick start in the mid-sixties with the multiplication of art exhibitions in Beirut (starting with Yousef El Khal's Gallery One). It reached its golden age in the early seventies with the increase in number of art galleries (the most prominent were Contact Art Gallery, Dar El Fan Wal'adab, Centre d'Art, Gallerie d'Art Contemporain, Delta Gallery, Modulart Gallery ...) and art events in cultural centers (JFK Center, Goethe Institute, Centre Culturel Français, Centre Cervantes ...) as well as in Beirut's hotels (Phoenicia, Vendôme, Carlton, Commodore ...). The poster was a sign of prestige in galleries, and was regarded as an instrument required for promoting exhibits and artists, in spite of its limited exposure.
Art gives ideas of how people can change or add new ideas to their dances and performances which is based on their cultural background and how art greatly impacts culture. Art has many interpretations to many people. It’s like that saying “A picture is worth a thousand words”. Everyone has their own idea of what they think the picture means and exhibits to them. This reminds of me of all the paintings and sculptures I saw in the Zimmerli art museum and how the Russian and European art influenced what
Every heritage in one way or another has been exposed and leveraged by body art. Body art and ornamentation are more than just the newest Trends. As far as researcher can notify body art has been around since the starting civilization. Body art and ornamentation are visually based, so to understand the art one must know the symbolic meanings from the heritage offered in the art work. Focusing on different heritages in the world and matching a locality of each other’s body art there are some huge dissimilarities and likenesses.
Emotion in an Aesthetic Experience Emotion is key to experience art in the way the artist intended his art to be perceived. A work of art, whether a painting, poem, play, etc, that has a dark and ominous tone seemingly inflicts an expression of an emotion upon the audience, hopefully equivalent to the intent the artist was trying to provide through his art. Emotion that is felt however, is subjective to each individual. This emotion perceived by the art allows the audience to therefore have an aesthetic experience, whether or not they understand the emotion that they are expressing. This expression of emotion when observing art leads to better comprehension of the artwork and the artist’s emotions that he experienced and expressed while creating a particular piece of art.
