Methodology of Action Research Tamala Tamara Hammond Full Sail University Action research is a problem that is being researched to improve or solve the problem. Action research takes place by becoming actively involved in the solution to the problem or the process of the problem. During action research you can work with others in groups or as a team to improve the way to solve the problem. The purpose of action research is to contribute both to the practical concerns of people in an immediate problematic situation and to further the goals of social science simultaneously. Action research is different from traditional research. Reason and Bradbury (2002 )stated that “Action research is an interactive inquiry process that balances problem solving actions implemented in a collaborative context with data-driven collaborative analysis or research to understand underlying causes enabling future predictions about personal and organizational change (Reason & Bradbury, 2002). It focuses on turning the people involved into researchers. The people will be able to share what they learn best and are more willingly apply what they have learned. Action research takes place in everyday situation with intentions on solving the problem. Therefore action research is being actively involved in researching the problem. Problem solving is the emphasis on scientific study, which causes refining the methodological tools to suit the exigencies of the situation, and on collecting, analyzing, and presenting data on an ongoing, cyclical basis. Traditional research is researching the problem by using previous knowledge of the problem by other researchers.
