Media Portrayal of Sex Today When looking at the Media’s portrayal on sex today it seems to be extremely open, vulgar as well as unrealistic. Within this paper, one will be referring to media as television, magazines or news. No matter what source of media one is talking about, sex seems to be depicted in every source as glamorous, not dangerous at all and has no consequence whatsoever in today’s society. It’s pretty obvious that speaking about sex with an adult/parent is extremely uncomfortable and every child dreads the day “the birds and the bee’s” conversation has to take place. So in most cases children try to get their information from a much more comfortable source, which is not always a very reliable source, but in most cases comes from some source of media, including social media, television and fairly open over the radio as well. Today the media portrays the act of sex, or sexually explicit content as a glorifying experience that adults just do to be “cool” or for reputation status or even to feel more like an adult, any reason that the media sees fit for a source of entertainment. The media has glorified the act of sex in every way possible and has completely taking the biblical meaning completely out of it. As a child, there was a very minimal source of media compared to today. The only sources of media available were television, not including reality television except for cops and the other source was radio, the internet was not as popular as it is now, in the early ninety’s. Sex was not something that was exposed or glorified when I was a child, it was something more sacred and discussed amongst your families in confidence. I was taught that sex was confidential and personal between oneself and a loved one after marriage with the agreement to start a family.
