ESSAY In general, media refers to various means of communication. It is divided into three genres namely electronic, printed and new media. Movies, cable television, news television programmes such as Cable News Network (CNN), British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), China Central Television (CCTV) and Bloomberg are electronic based media. As for printed media, newspapers, magazines and leaflets are the main medium while the rising popular new social media platforms for internet are the widely acclaimed Facebook and Twitter. The term media can also be used as a collective noun for the press or news reporting agencies. It is the plural of medium and can take a plural or singular verb, depending on the sense intended. In essence, violence are said to be categorized into domestic violence and criminal violence. For example, a husband who physically abuses his wife or children by beating them up violently to the point of serious injury is considered as domestic violence and it is basically a type of violence that begins from home. Meanwhile, violence caused by the likes of robbery, rape or kidnapping is deemed as criminal violence. This is due to the fact that it is an act punishable by law and violent actions are done by the criminals whereby harm, injury or even death could occur. The mass media are an increasingly accessible way for people to learn what is important in the world today and what acceptable behaviour in the society is. The media which is prevalent in every aspect of our lives is the perfect instrument to install ideas in the minds of people, and the most susceptible of them all, children. The immaturity of those young children, who are rather active with action movies, will be easily influenced by the violent behaviour in the shows.
