10 Practical Tips for Revising Maths

• Don’t leave it too late – start NOW and do a little and often. That is much better than trying to do 6 hours the night before the exam.
• Organise your workplace at home – know where everything you need is (calculator, compass etc…)
• Organise your notes and textbooks so you know where to go to look topics up.
• Don’t waste time – it’s easy to start designing colourful revision timetables etc. but they don’t help you learn.
• DO QUESTIONS – reading notes is not a useful way of revising maths, you must practise your skills. Your teacher will give you past GCSE papers.
• Take regular breaks – no-one can study for 3 or 4 hours and keep learning.
• Set yourself realistic targets, that way you can achieve them.
• Have a list of topics close to your desk, maybe on the wall, which you can refer to and tick off (get one from your teacher or find out where you can find one). You might want to “grade” topics by how confident you feel about them and that way you will see where to target your revision.
• Don’t waste hours trying to learn topics which you find impossible. You would be better to concentrate on topics which you CAN improve.
• Seek help and advice from anyone and anything you can – teachers, parents, brothers or sisters, tutors, the internet, books………
GOOD LUCK !
