Essay 1. Married Manager Abroad Summary Nowadays, due the globalization era, lots of big companies have expanded their operations to other countries. This fact has raised the number of managers that have to move abroad with their families. The author of the article exposes the complexity of adaption when a manager has to go in a new culture because of work. More specifically, he focuses in the importance of the adaptability of the spouse, who has different challenges than the expatriate manager that most of the time, aren’t taking in consideration. In fact, experts stand that the role of the spouse in cross cultural experience are the most difficult one. The spouse has to deal with difficulties not only proceeding from the cultural shock, but also from disruptions of self-identity. The article grouped all those difficulties or circumstances of spousal adjustments in three categories: Individual, interpersonal relationships and environmental antecedents. Also there are adding some advices to confront those situations. At the end, it is discussed the fact that there is commonly ignored the influence so strong that the wife can exert on the expatriate manager. To be or not adaptable to the “new environment” is reflected in the facility or difficulty of the manager to adapt himself, and furthermore, it is reflected on his performance at work.
