TUI UNIVERSITY Christopher Clark MGT 301 Principles of Management Module 3 Case Assignment Dr. Daniela Portuese March 28, 2011 What are some of the main initiatives (related to Organizing) that CEO Hurd has implemented in order to turn HP around? “I want HP to be known as the company customers can trust to deliver – that once we make a commitment, they can bank on us to live up to it. If we do that, HP will be successful, but most important, our customers will be successful” (Hurd, 2006) Transitions are a common phenomenon that occurs in the business world and sometimes is for the best of a company. New leaders emerge to take control over the widely chaotic situation that may be occurring in the company and the business world. HP is one of the largest computer and Printer Company in the world and had, like Starbucks and McDonalds lost focus of the value of its customers; instead engaged in making the company larger and not prioritizing or placing the interests of its customers first. With the transition from Ms. Fiorina as CEO to Mark Hurd many changes have surfaced and the game plan is to focus on the customers and to produce a larger customer base. By implementing the basic fundamentals of management and a clear strategy Mark Hurd has spearheaded the change and the change is being felt all over the globe and in every department that HP employs. New CEO, New strategy Mark Hurd is not new to the business world, and has been quite well at making things better and improving the overall revenue for the companies he is in charge of. Mark Hurd the new CEO of HP spent the first 25 years working for NCR Corporation starting as a junior sales associate and working his way up the chain to become the president of the NCR Corporation.
