These runoffs have contributed to the beach closures, and the unsustainable condition of biological life in the lake. Human health is at great risk due to the untreated waste that is dumped in Lake Huron each year. The untreated sewage contains many viruses, two being Giardia (an intestinal parasite), cryptosporidium, which causes intestinal illnesses and even death. E. coli a more familiar virus has elevated its concentrations in Lake Huron, found in either animal or human feces, which causes diarrhea, nausea, and stomach cramps. ("Testing the waters,"
TMA 01, QUESTION1. Some of the most serious environmental issues today are climate change, air issue, waste and land pollution, over population and water issue. 1. Climate Change, is undeniable a global environmental concern that is triggering a rise in the amount of major natural disasters like floods and hurricanes; which causes destruction in societies and the regions which they effect. Global warming will only cause an increase in these issues along with additional problems that could eventually end this civilization, if we don’t work hard on improving our efforts on managing all the different types of pollution and waste that contributes to this major concern.
Aquatic Invertebrates: Adaptations and Feeding Guilds INTRODUCTION Global warming and human's authoritative influence on the environment such as deforestation, pollution etc. are taking a bad toll on the diversity of the ecosystem. Global warming which has brought about increase in the temperatures is disturbing the natural cycle of the ecosystem. This has brought upon an increased droughts throughout the world. The droughts and increased heat has had negative impacts on local aquatic invertebrates.
Close to the likely locations of these hotels, the environmental cost will likely be payed by the mangroves due to their unattractiveness by the mainstream tourist. This phenomenon of people flooding the region is likely to occur not only the reef, but in the mangroves as well. The only reason the degradation of the mangrove and coral reef habitats is occuring is a result of this coasts’ high potential for a beautifully, healthy, and bio-diverse community.
It was literally a dumping ground and it even caught on fire a few times due to the toxic wastes. The phosphorus levels in Lake Erie are increasing due to the pollution causing harm to the fishes that reside in it. In 2014, Lake Erie had so much algae from pollution that it caused the City of Toledo to be left without fresh water. This algae was caused by the excessive amount of phosphorus in the lake. This excessive amount of Phosphorus is caused when the fertilizer is dumped into the lake by farmers.
The method of hydraulic fracturing has substantially increased as classical petroleum gas extraction is on the decline. The process of fracking has induced heavy concerns. Scientists have been led to believe that by digging deep into the Earth's surface numerous concerns may arise. Many U.S states that have been experimenting with fracking have experienced higher frequencies of earth quakes over the years. Furthermore, the influx of chemicals brought deep into the ground for extraction purposes have mixed with ground water, leading to lethal contamination of local drinking water.
Many worry about the negative consequences Global Warming may have on our Earth. It is believed that there will be detremental effects from sea to land. A rise in water levels causing the icecaps to melt. Melting icecaps would then release methane another greenhouse gas. The oceans salt water would mix with freshwater and CO2 would get absorbed into the oceans causing disabling effects on our waters food chain.
Escaped farmed salmon are then capable of spreading these infections to wild Pacific salmon populations. Of course, the big question is, “What can we do about these problems?” The best approach according to Frazer & Lewis (2008; as cited in SeaWeb, 2007), would include “… locating sea cages very far from wild fish” (Abstract), or using a “closed containment” (p. 2) system in order to isolate farmed fish from wild fish. Unfortunately, both options are more expensive than popular methods of aquaculture. Short-term gains from aquaculture and other human interventions appear to outweigh short-term losses, so industry has little incentive to follow more sustainable practices. If these practices continue, then long-term losses may result in the extinction of multiple Pacific salmon species
These emissions can become acid rain and if it can damage a tree, it can and does damage coral. According to the Coral Reef Alliance; the world’s oceans have had “approximately 525 billion tons of carbon dioxide” dumped by human activity within their waters. [ (Coral Reef Alliance, 2012) ]. The site also goes on to state that the destruction of Mangroves,(which have been harvested for lumber) and the loss filtering saltwater swamps due to farming have caused quite a bit of stress on coral reefs. Then there are the odd ways we humans go about “enjoying the ocean”.
These slimy mats of algae foul beaches and the taste of drinking water and produce toxins that are dangerous to humans (Magnien, n.d.). People who regularly consume a lot of fish will have larger levels of toxic chemicals in their bodies than those who only eat fish occasionally. While scientists are still studying the effects of high chemical levels in humans, studies have suggested that toxic chemicals can lead to reproductive problems, cancer and neurological disorders. People who are most at risk of health problems due to contaminated fish consumption are those with weakened immune systems, including children, pregnant women and the
