Many believe that free education contribute to improve society. Discuss. 2013 Lara Vassallo Junior College | English Intermediate | 2B 12/12/2013 In olden days, people were used to having people of the high class only given an education. Many parents used to want their children to go and work with them in their field and therefore not go to school. Today, many people believe that free education replicates society. However, I am one of those who feel that free education contributes to improve our society. In fact education is accessible by everyone. A good education results in a good career with high income and also education decreases poverty. In the past, education was not compulsory and not offered to the common people. As time passed by, many people worked to make school compulsory and also free of charge in a majority of countries. Therefore, today no one has the excuse that they do not have the opportunity to study. No one is stupid; everyone has the same brain with the same capacity. It is up to them whether or not to use it because as they say; where there is a will there is a way. In addition, people who come from a poor background, still have the opportunity to study, move up the social ladder and achieve what their parents couldn’t. Hence, having free education is a definite plus to society. As I mentioned above, people who study can move up the social ladder. This is because they will build up their career and therefore have a high income. Today it’s almost considered not normal that someone stops studying. Many students after their secondary education continue their studies at the 6th forms or vocational colleges and then take their studies a step further to university. In Malta we are lucky that we have a university which is accessible from practically anywhere. We have a high rate of success, where students become doctors, nurses, lawyers,
