Example would be; best book sellers, self-help videos-with titles like men are mars, women are from venus. Of course, the question is an age old one. Nevertheless, people nearly always seem to be interested in new (and often old, disguised as new) perspectives about how and why men and women are so different. The talk of differences is so common that the assumption is rarely questioned. One problem with much of the talk about sex/gender differences is the facility with which gender stereotypes can be unintentionally reinforced.
Tannen’s article is based on her theory of relations between men and women which states that men tend to be more literal about words while women, listen for metamessages in conversations. A metamessage is a “form of indirectness,” and women are more than likely to use it more often than men throughout conversations (200). Tannen implies that because women are more attentive to speech they become “ more focused on involvement, that is, on relationships among people and it is through metamessages that relationships among people are established and maintained” (202). Since their early childhood years, “their social life usually centers around a best friend,
As a result, women seek health care in much greater proportion than men. Men, on the other hand, traditionally shy away from the health-care system, and we are only now starting to understand why that is. Men tend to view partners and friends as primary health sources. When they do reach a physician, men tend to focus more on physical problems, and are less likely to discuss deeper emotional issues -- particularly if the physician is female. Perhaps most influential are perceptions around male masculinity.

The thesis is, “More men ask. The women just don’t ask.” (Linda Babcock, Sara Laschever, Women Don’t Ask). The title of the text is “Women Don’t Ask”, which directly correlates with the thesis and topic; which is that women do not ask for certain permissions and promotions as often as men do. There is a lot of evidence present in the text regarding the thesis. Several studies were conducted by Linda Babcock to prove that the thesis she included was correct.
Audrey Jampayas Fall 2014 Writing Assignment 1 Different by Gender but Equal When one thinks about history, one hears these great stories of men and significant names such as The Founding Fathers, Thomas Paine, John Smith, and etc. However, one does not hear much names of women. If they were mentioned, they are usually wives, slaves, or helpers. It implies a unimportant impression or rendered insignificant. In Berkin’s book, Revolutionary Mothers, the author argues how the Revolutionary War was somehow a gateway to change the expected role of women, prove that women are not inferior to men, and how the war opened opportunities to women.
There are many different types of communication styles each person has a unique personality and communication style which plays a basic role in their personality perspectives. In the article “but what do you mean?” by Deborah Tannen the author argues that there is no right or wrong way to talk. Whereas in the article “Doublespeak” by William Lutz he argues that communication is carefully designed and constructed to mislead and corrupt our thoughts. However I agree with Tanner because men and women talk differently. One of the most common reasons is that your communication style is different than the other person’s communication style.
She blames men for giving them the place in society but also puts it on women’s shoulders by saying, “Only in recent years has woman's position as the gentler and weaker half of the human family been emphatically and generally questioned. Men assumed that this was woman's place; woman herself accepted it”4. She does begin to display some energy for what could change minds of women that accepted their submissive role in society. “Since they were given the role, women have still rallied and protested to rights of men. Despite the winning of voting, property and working rights, they have accomplished nothing relative to their vital factors of their existence”.5 Her belief is that they are there to lead the movements of bettering society by voluntarily bringing in only those who are fit to undo the wrong that they have allowed to come about.
All the same , it is important to know men and women were created equal, if not written on a piece of paper , it is said religiously, “ both male and female reflect the nature of God …Gods sublime unity does not belong to one gender or the other.” (Let’s talk about sex roles, in theory, para 5) These words were written and looked at for centuries but still women played an idealistic role that prominently derived from years back . It took women being angry and suffering yo actually changing the unrealistic view of themselves. Some men despised it, but other men changed with the women and learned to love it by the early 2000’s, things grew omishly different. Dan Mulhern wrote,” When your grandmother were raised, being a woman meant being a housewife, But mom and the new generation seized new opportunities. Her success freed me to see a man can be good…” (para, 5) Since then women are routinely doing jobs and functions that nowadays won't get a second
Recommendation Different genders clash with obscure communication styles while misunderstandings are built up more and more as pressure suppresses the imminent chaos between spouses. Males and females have a linguistic style that they speak to their same kind but creating clashes when speaking to the other sex. When taking marriage classes and improving relationships there are articles such as “His Talk, Her Talk” by Joyce Maynard and “Man to Man, Woman to Woman” by Mark A. Sherman and Adelaide Haas both discuss about the difference of language males and females talk rather than when the same gender communicates. Although Maynard focuses using pathos in her article to connect to the readers with emotion, however Sherman and Haas use a more
