Man and boy – book analysis Intro Man and boy is a novel, which has its focus on Harry Silver. A person who thought his life was perfect. He had the wife, the job, the car, the house and the most adorable son. He lives in the big city, London. His mother and father is always available. What could possibly ruin this? A meaningless one-night stand. This so-called “incident” sent his wife, Gina, to Japan wanting to complete her studies, instead of being a home mom. Harry had to take care of his son, Pat, on his own. Furthermore, that does not sound like a tough job or something unusual, considering the fact that he has been a father for years. However, it ended up being one though. Harry continued to learn and experience from his son. His parents helped him a lot, he met a girl named Cyd with a daughter, Peggy, and lost his job. Pats relationship with Patrick, Harry’s father, was special. Therefore, when Patrick dies, Pat has a hard time accepting it. The books ends up in a cliché, romance typical movie. Harry loses the girl, but ends up getting her back. He lost everything, but still ended up with the only thing he wanted. A family with Cyd, Peggy and Pat. Harry Silver is a dynamic character. He start with being the “douchebag type of dad”. Continues with the role of an “arrogant asshole” and ends with being a “decent guy”. Harry is the type of person that asks many questions. Not necessarily out loud, but more to himself. He is hesitant, not a straightforward person. He is tiptoeing around his son, because he is afraid of making a mistake. Harry’s father is not the sentimental type. Patrick cares about his family and would do anything for them. However, being a veteran makes him a tough person and a struggler. Harry always looked up to his father. That is why, when he realized that he had to take care of Pat, he wanted to be as amazing as Patrick was. Harry wanted
