In Pacific Mall, there are small mini stores located in close proximity with each other whereas in the Shops of Don Mills, they are larger and given a clear distinct impression that they are all separate. As with the layout, the stores that are available in Pacific Mall are also different from the Shops of Don Mills. The stores located inside Pacific Mall have a large range of variety, and also have a large range in price, quality, and variety. As a result of these large influxes in price, quality and variety, Pacific Mall does not have a well defined socioeconomic class as clientele. Despite both The Shops of Don Mills and Pacific Mall being quite different as shopping centers, they are still both places in which shopping, socialization, and leisure time is spent.
Shopping malls in today's society are generally sought after for that last minute birthday gift, a trendy outfit to wear out next weekend, or simply just a hang out for teens and young adults. In Jon Pahl's essay, entitled The Mall as Sacred Space, he conveys a bold opinion about the malls in our country being cathedrals for the new, universal religion of modern America. Although his essay is not entirely exaggerated, several of Pahl's assumptions are distorted. Not only does Pahl make a direct comparison between a religious environment and a shopping mall, but he also suggests a mall can be seen as a facility for religious appeasement and societal disorientation. Pahl's ideas reflect those of Western Maryland College professor, Ira G. Zepp, and mall architect, James Rouse.
In “The Mall as Refuge”, sociologist George Lewis considers the distinction between manufactured communities and people's actual socializing behavior. Today’s shopping centers have become about much more than just shopping. They host restaurants, arcades, movie theatres, and even professional services like legal, medical or optical aid. The mall is set up to be a comfortable and well equipped place for shoppers; it creates an illusion of a community. Ironically, in the illusion of a community, small communities have actually arisen.
I am going to be looking at some of the stores in Reading and how they have particular functions and how they have formatted their store, the locations of the stores and how they impact on the store. The main store types that I believe are big known shopping centres such as oxford circus, Westfield’s, Blue water, also shopping malls and in town shopping. A shopping mall will have numbers of shops of altogether where as in town shopping centres will have high streets and have local shops in the area. Oxford circus high street known as high street. Also Westfield in Stratford is an example of a shopping mall.
There are four anchor stores, Sears, Nordstrom’s, Macy’s and JC Penny’s. All the stores combine to bring in approximately around $11 million a year. Arden Fair was originally built in 1957 as a single-level outdoor mall with Sears as the original anchor, despite being physically separated from the rest of the mall. [4] Hale's, the second original anchor, opened four years later in 1961, which was later converted to Weinstock's. By the 1970s, Arden Fair was converted into an indoor mall.
in 26 states. Its headquarters is approximately 220,000 sqft with a back yard, tennis court and lots of parking. This one headquarters supports 755 store locations in 24 states. As for their store locations they are usually situated in strip malls and shopping centers, this is an effective placement strategy because customers do not have to make a conscience effort to drive to the store, rather they come to the mall and walk past the store and perhaps this triggers some impulse buys. Hibbetts has a large number of employees compared to the average store size.
These displays and advertisements really makes people want to come in and check out the deals that they have seen on those advertisements, so Target really drags people into their stores. Dissimilar form Wal-Mart, Target has no cheaper label to sell costumers the same individual features like the “Great Value” label, so that make Target more expensive than Wal-Mart. In Target if you find something cheaper than in their stores they will not make override it to make it the same price. The similarities between Wal-Mart and Target is that they both huge and powerful corporation stores. There are about 1,591 Target stores in the country, and about 9,600 Wal-Mart stores In the United States.
Truett Cathy opened his first restaurant called The Dwarf Grill in Hapeville, Georgia. He established Chick-Fil-A Inc. in the early 1960s in shopping malls with the opening of the first Chick-Fil-A in a mall in the suburban part of Atlanta. Some of the innovative concepts that Chick-Fil-A consider to be a success for them are mall based restaurants. The chain has approximately 334 major shopping mall restaurants that are operating. Because of customer demand the chain began to open stand alone restaurants in 1986, it now has 938 stand alone restaurants around the country.
What is it like to have a planner/organizer? Two years ago, I went to Fully Booked Trinoma to go window shopping for books (lol I just buy books. I seldom read them). Every time I go to the mall, I make it sure to drop by this store. I came across with planners with catchy designs.
Lluvia N Moreno Aguilar April 12, 2015 Ms.Patterson Observation Assignment Sociology, many do not know the meaning behind this powerful word, that makes the world run smoothly and if we are not careful it can encounter us to situations that are not too pleasant. Going to the mall is something everyone has done at some point in life. Whether is to shop, meet with friends at the café, or simply to just go out. On this assignment I wanted to concentrate in one mall which is “Arizona Mills Mall” for the simple reason, the population that attends this mall is very diverse. And by diverse I mean, different status and ethnicity.
