Make a Fake Mummy's Tomb Creating a mummy's tomb is a great way to teach children the joys of discovery and Egyptian archeology. Use a large cardboard box for the tomb and a shoe box for the sarcophagus. A doll wrapped in strips of tissue paper can stand in for a real mummy. Dry, oil-free popcorn or Styrofoam packing peanuts can be a substitute for sand. Small cardboard gift boxes or jewelry boxes can be used to store beads, costume jewelry or other treasures. Instructions Things You'll Need * Large cardboard box * Small jewelry boxes * Shoe box * Popcorn * Air popcorn popper * Paper * Scissors * Tape * Pencil crayons * Doll * Tissue paper * Beads * Costume jewelry Pop some popcorn in a dry air popper to simulate sand. Do not use popcorn with oil as the oil will soak into the paper and cardboard. Place some beads onto the chest of the doll. Cut the tissue paper into 1-inch thick strips. Dab each strip with a glue stick. Then wrap them around the doll to make a mummy. Be careful to keep the beads in place. Cut pieces of paper to cover the shoe box. Use the glue stick and tape to wrap the shoe box completely. Cover the lid of the shoe box with paper as well. Draw hieroglyphics on the paper covering the shoe box with pencil crayons. Draw a picture of a king or queen on the lid of the box, coloring it in with a gold or yellow pencil crayon Place the mummy in the shoe box. Ball up pieces of tissue paper and place them around the mummy to keep it in place. Then place pieces of costume jewelry, beads or other suitable small objects around the mummy.
