The mother asked the pre-op nurse how long the procedure would take, because she had to tend to another child and would need to leave for a short while. The nurse told her the procedure would take approximately an hour and forty five minutes, which included recovery. The mother handed the nurse her cell phone number and asked to be called if the surgery was shorter than predicted. The mother insisted that she was only gone for two and a half hours, and when she returned to pick up her child, the child had been discharged to the father thirty minutes prior. She became very agitated, and security was called for assistance.
The child’s mother and father are divorced, and the mother has sole custody of the child. A “code pink” child abduction was called, and local law enforcement notified. The child was found unharmed thirty minutes later at the home of the child’s father. The mother brought the child to the hospital for outpatient surgery that was to take approximately 45 minutes with a period of recovery of one hour. The mother requested that the nurse call her on her phone should the child get out of surgery early, and she left her cell phone number with the nurse.

The parent of the child should always be present should anything happen and the parent needs to be contacted. The parent must take some of the blame in not calling the hospital once she was told the procedure would be only 45 minutes. She was gone for 2 ½ hours before she returned back to the hospital. The Doctor-Dr. Munoz stated that he has all the pertinent patient information but did not make sure that his office had communicated this information to the hospital admissions staff The Pre-OP Nurse-Ms. Doppke failed to properly document the mother’s cell phone number in the patient’s medical chart. Therefore, during the post-op care, the mother could have been reached and notified the procedure was finished.
They spent a good amount in the store but it was just because they weren’t prepared. A few weeks after, Meredith was rushed to the hospital to give birth to her 8 pounds 7 oz. baby boy named Luke. A month later she had to attend the physician’s office to make sure everything was doing well with her and her infant. A couple of months after she realized her child had no toys to play with so she took him to the toy company to pick out a few toys, and ended up getting a ton!

In the story “Let it Snow” by David Sedaris the first person character talks about how snow was a regular thing in winter when he lived in New York, but when he moved to North Carolina it rarely snowed. He recalls when he was in fifth grade that it snowed so much that school was canceled for several days. He goes on to say that his mother had a breakdown and kicked them out of the house, without letting them back in or even acknowledging them. They were so desperate to get back into the house that they came up with a plan to have their little sister get hit by a car so their mother would feel bad about herself and not treat them badly anymore. A neighbor found out what they were doing and informed the mother.

He lay in bed, worrying every wasted day was putting his daughter one step closer to
