In the poem, Collins tries to manufacture the feeling of fishing on the Susquehanna River. He finds a painting of someone fishing on the river and is immediately captivated by it. The contrast between the more simple diction in stanza six, and the descriptive diction in stanzas eight, nine, and ten, suggests that the most realistic art is made by those who draw from experience, but even this art cannot replace the sensation of real experience itself. …Since he has never, in fact, been to this river, he can't describe his surroundings in detail. In contrast, the diction he uses in describing the painting of the river is far more striking and illustrative.
The sea gasped for air with each shallow, stifled little wave that broke on the sand. I was walking slowly toward the rocks and I could feel my forehead swelling under the sun. All the heat was pressing down on me and making it hard for me to go on.” (The Stranger, p. 57) Function: The sun is one of the most important motifs in Albert Camus’ “The Stranger.” Camus uses imagery when describing the sun, which sets the base for the climax of Mersault’s murder of the Arab. The sun, more than anything, is depicted as a scapegoat or distraction to Mersault. It clouds Mersault’s judgment and causes him to take actions that normally he would not consider acting.
Summer reading By Sowmya Srinivasan This summer we had to read to books written by AVI, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle and Crispin the Cross of Lead. Both books have many similarities to each other with the theme point of view etc. But it also had some differences. In the end the author made it an interesting story to both learn and enjoy! For the authors writing style I have three things that I mainly focus they are three aspects the cliffhanger, point of view, and dynamic characters.
That is now a sacred sea and as we all know, stealing is disrespectful. Many people, maybe even our ancestores, soul’s lie in the deprths of the great blue Atlantic Ocean. Why should we distube the peace now? What if the people that died there were your brother, sister, mom, or dad? How do you think they would feel, well, how would you feel?
SECTION A: READING 2. How does the presentation show her achievements? The image of Ellen Mac Arthur anchors to the article as it reinforces her exceptional achievements. In this image, Mac Arthur’s courage and determination is demonstrated palpably: she leans towards the sea, her body half outside the boat. By that, her will power to change the balance between men and women in sport, is made evident, as well as her endeavour to cross the line of prejudice towards women in sports.
Although he briefly trained as a Naval Surgeon, Ferguson soon realised that his ambition was painting and he spent some time travelling in Spain, Morocco and France to develop his artistic knowledge and experience. The first painting I am going to discuss is 'The Pink Parasol' which is a portrait painted in 1908 of a fellow artist and friend Bertha Case, when they were both in Paris. In this painting Ferguson adopted much stronger colours than in his other paintings and like Matisse used green paint to represent shadows in the face. He emphasised pattern by merging the pink parasol with the background of his picture by blending it with the cold colours. The painting is of a woman peering over her shoulder, she is wearing a hat with a pink bow and is also wearing a scarf, in the background there is a pink parasol around strong blocks of cold colours.
Calling herself a “…Thought provoking modern surreal artist” Scheetz-Wise’s aim is to incite an emotional impact on the viewer whether it could make you laugh, cry or be shocked by making them aware about events occurring throughout the world. Scheetz-Wise’s stunning artwork is usually found to explore symbolism and abstract ideas fused together to shape an event or person and their embodiment. Sandra Scheetz-Wise also has her artwork symbolism used for studying in a Florida College. Linda Kunik has always used the land as a reference for her artworks using different mediums like watercolors. Her ideas led to the merge of formalism, globalization and environmental issues in abstract ways to put forth her views on matters.
Irrigated Soil Irrigating water over and over again, until it is overused. This means the natural cycle of water no longer happens. Ocean Water Resource Challenge Description Over Fishing Fishing to the intent that we take out more fish that can be put back. In today’s society, the environmental issues that appear on television the most include overpopulation, air pollution, climate change, and water pollution. In this essay, I would like to focus on an aspect of water pollution that has been overlooked by the general public. This lurking environmental danger in the ocean is called a Dead Zone. In Tom Levitt’s article for CNN, Levitt writes: “Aquatic "dead zones" are a tragic illustration of human beings' negative impact on the world's oceans. They are areas so overloaded with pollutants that they have difficulty sustaining any life.” Dead Zones are created by fertilizer and pollution run off from our very own backyards.
The Open Boat by Stephen Crane Stephen Crane is one of many authors who use a Naturalist style of writing. Typical Naturalist writing focuses on man vs. a force of nature that is a threat to the characters well being. The Open Boat by Crane is a great example of this because it shows the struggles the characters have with nature. He uses similes and metaphors throughout to show not only the beauty of nature but the dangers of it also. Crane uses his writing techniques to show that nature has no boundaries or concern about who it affects.
