LUKE’S GOSPEL In a world that promotes youth, health, wealth and success the message of Luke’s Gospel is largely irrelevant. The Gospel According to Luke, more commonly known as Luke’s Gospel or Luke, is the third and longest of the four canonical Gospels. It is an account of the life and ministry of Jesus and outlines his story, including the miracles he performed and how he preached the word of God, starting with the birth of Jesus and Jesus’ ascension into heaven. It also delivers the accustomed message that Jesus does not judge anyone by his or her label and gives special emphasis to prayer, miracles and angels. The date of which Luke’s Gospel was written is unknown to anyone in our time, however the most likely date of which it was written is sometime between the years 60 and 90 AD. Luke’s Gospel is largely relevant to our society as it addresses and demonstrates important themes such as the perfect humanity of Jesus Christ and demonstrates the fact that although part of our society significantly value money, health success and youth, most still value important aspects in life such as kindness, generosity and care for other people, which are consistently demonstrated throughout Luke’s Gospel. Firstly, the idea that Jesus is our savior and is the perfect humanity is constantly reinforced throughout our lives as Catholics. The author of Luke’s Gospel thoroughly teaches their audience this message so that our society and further societies that are to come can understand and appreciate the values and teachings of God. This message of Luke will always be a pertinent thematic concern in any Catholic’s life as it is the founding of our entire faith and religion. By introducing Jesus as the Universal Savior, Luke is suggesting that Jesus is the guidance for everyone in society no matter what label they carry and whether they are a sinner or not. Luke 2, The
