Ahyjuanae Abrams Prof.Ruth Poritt PHI 180 November 19, 2011 Friendship and Love Friends are a natural occurrence in most of our lives. Friendship is the state of being a friend(Webster dictionary) and having value of a persons friendship. Friends are there for comfort, advice, to laugh with, and to create memories that are unforgettable. According to Aristotle there are 3 forms of friendship. The first one being a friendship based on utility or usefulness; Second, a friendship based on pleasure; and a high form of friendship, which is wanting what is best for a friend. An example of a friendship based on utility would be enduring a friendship with someone just because they have a car. In other words if he or she did not have a vehicle, they would not have your friendship either. Having a friendship based on pleasure basically says that you have a particular kind of enjoyment with a person. For example, if you have a friend who is a comedian and every time you are in their presence they crack jokes to make you laugh you are getting enjoyment from them. Suppose the person runs out of jokes, you will assume they are no longer funny and would not want their company because you’re not getting any type of enjoyment from them. The highest form of friendship is the the most important component of friendship because a friend should always want what is best for another friend. I agree with Aristotle forms of friendships because it is relevant and the world lies with all types of friends which I will discuss throughout this essay. It is a known fact that friends come in and out of our lives. It is important to recognize the types of friends you have. I believe every individual has a choice as to who they want to be their friends and who they don’t want to be friends with. There are certain qualities that a person must have for some people to
