Jeremiah Haynes English 3-4 10 September 2013 Living With My Older Brother It was the middle of the summer of 2008; my parents had just lost our place to live, so my brother and his fiancé took in me and my little brother James. Josh, my older brother, had grown up a lot like us; he grew up around drugs, moved from place to place, and pretty much living on the dole, until he met his wife. Before my brother met Megan, his wife, he was scrawny, no muscle build and he looked like he never ate. He met Megan at the age of 16, and started to work out, eat healthy, and spend all his time with her. Josh is now 6’0” and is in great physical shape with a body most guys dream of. He took us in only so we didn’t have to live on the street. Josh had taken us in and I was getting ready to start the seventh grade. The first thing he told me was that I could stay with them as long as I wanted. He and I went to Lodi Middle to get my school application and other forms. On our way to the school he had said, “You know, now that you live with us, you can’t play video games all day, so we’re going to sign you up for a sport to keep you preoccupied.” “Okay, so what sport am I going to play.” I asked him. “Football, Basketball, or anything that you have to do physically, accept soccer.” He said that last part with a bad tone because he knew I liked soccer and he hated every part of it; playing it, watching it, or even listening to it. I never quite understood why. “Football, that sounds like fun.” I said with a nice tone. “Don’t sass me boy, and it won’t be no flag either, ya hear.” He said sounding even more irritated. This was the way Josh and I talked to each other. Later, when we got all my school documents, he had handed me the football registration form.
