Living At Home VS. Living in an Apartment Living at home compared to living in an apartment is completely different. By having personal experience with this, I know just how different it is. If you are like me, when you live at home and have a job, you can do whatever you want with your money. You don’t have bills to take care of, so you can use your money however you see fit. You can go out with friends, buy anything you want, do whatever you want, and it will be ok. But living on your own, in an apartment, is a different story. First off, you need to buy things for the apartment. For example, dishes, silverware, cookware, towels, cleaning supplies, you name it. You need to buy it. Then, you are going to have to pay your rent. If you have an apartment that has all utilities included in the rent, you are saving a little bit of money. If you don’t then you have to pay rent, the electric, heat, water, etc., plus all of your food. You will need to have money saved, have a good job, or have a roommate, just to be able to afford to live there. If you were living at home, you normally would have to ask your parents if friends could come, or you would have a curfew when you go out. That becomes a pain. What happens if your parents say, “No, Jessica can’t come over.”? I know I would be really mad. Or if you want to go see a movie that starts at 7:15PM and ends at 9:30PM and you have to be home by 10:00PM? It gets frustrating. Again, living in an apartment is different. If you want to have friends over, you can have them over, because you don’t have anyone to tell you “no”. Or if you want to go see that movie at 7:15PM, you can go. You don’t have to be home at a certain time. You can come home whenever you want. One problem though, if you live by yourself, you most likely won’t be able to afford to go out anywhere.
