Lifespan Perspective Lifespan Perspective Peoples lifespan development is a lifelong process; from conception to death. From the moment of conception, changes are being made continuously. For nine months, the baby develops and grows and then is born. After birth is when babies grow into children, and children into adolescents, and adolescents into adults, and during each stage of life, several changes occur socially, cognitively, and physically. There are three categories for lifespan development; physical, cognitive, and social. The physical category deals physical changes that people experience; weight gain or loss, growing taller or shrinking in height, acne, gray hair and liver spots are just some of the physical changes people go through within their lifetime. The cognitive category area is memory, problem-solving and thinking. Usually, as people age, their memory begins to fade, and they find that they forget things more easily, or it seems harder to remember simple things like where they set their keys or the name of someone they know. The social area focuses on the way people are in social situations. Babies often times do not like to be held by strangers. They cry for their mother, father or another familiar person. As babies get older, they become more trusting even around people they do not really know. As children grow, they learn about what is normal in their society. They learn how to behave by the ones they are around the most; parents, babysitters, grandparents and other family members and friends. When children reach puberty, their bodies go through changes, and some teenagers can be confused by sexual feelings they might be having. By the time they are out of high school, they decide if they want to get a job, go to college or marry their high school sweetheart and start a family.
