Hope Edwards Lifespan Interview University of Oklahoma School of Social Work Lifespan Interview Introduction Mrs. Jane Smith is an 89 years old Caucasian, born in Vinita, Oklahoma. She is the youngest of five children, all girls. Jane currently lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma in a retirement home. Her middle sister is the only other survivor of her siblings and lives in Tulsa as well. She was widowed 12 years ago after 57 years of marriage. Jane states she never remarried because no other man could compare to how great a husband she had. Jane’s earliest memory of her childhood was at about three years old. Her Father’s sister had been living with them and one day her Father took her Aunt shopping and on the way the Aunt had a stroke and was taken directly to the hospital by her Father. Jane remembers when her Father returned to the home she was told that her Aunt had passed away. Jane’s…show more content…
She took pride in her personal appearance as she was clean, well dressed and put together and she appeared to have recently had her hair done. She gets around well on her own with the use of a walker. However it seems she really does not need the walker as she moves rather quickly and it seems that her legs move faster than she can get the walker ahead of her. She was very energetic and in a happy mood. She enjoys dancing for extended periods of time which attributes to her being able to stay in shape. She is legally blind which probably accounts for why she uses the walker. With the use of a desktop magnifier she is able to read and write letters and read her newspapers and magazines. She also is hearing impaired and wears a hearing aid which is common at her age. However neither of these factors has kept her from living life to the fullest and being in control of her life. She seems to be content and happy and states the she feels very safe in her
