Life Without Light

“Life without light” Light is important for life to develop in one’s society and it is a form of energy for life existence. Without everyday sources of light such as, street lights and light bulbs, life would be very tedious when comes to doing daily activities such as cooking, driving on the streets or even doing homework assignments at night. However we may survive without these forms of light but what if there was no ‘sun’, the main source of light. There are many forms of light, some natural like the sun, lightning, fire; meteors, stars, bioluminescence, Antarctic krill, aurora borealis and plasma are just to name some. Life on earth greatly depends on sunlight. Plants use sunlight to create their own food known as the process called photosynthesis. The food is stored as energy in the plants then from the food chain; primary consumers (herbivores) eat the plants. This builds the foundation for the food chains in our ecosystems and sustains life. Without light, the food chain wouldn’t be completed and both plant and animals will have to find other source of energy. Some of the organism that exists today would perish and only a few, the survival of the fittest, would adapt to the changes as a means of survival. From completing the assignment, I’ve attained an in-depth knowledge that there is life without light near cold seeps or hydrothermal vents. In hydrothermal vents, lava and gases (hydrogen sulfide) spew where fissures or cracks are formed from the earth’s crust. Organisms that live near these vents survive without sunlight, extreme heat and highly toxic conditions. Cold seeps exist where hydrogen sulfide seeps from the earths’ crust. Organisms that live near these seeps also survive without light, cold temperatures and highly toxic environment. Their source of food is from bacterium which uses hydrogen sulfide with water and carbon dioxide to make
