Task one Read the following text and answer the questions on page 3. My favourite holiday destination is a quiet seaside village on the east coast of Spain. I hope to buy a small house or flat there one day, so I won’t tell you what it’s called. I first went there 20 years ago. In fact that’s where I met my husband Luis. He was a medical student working as a waiter in the small hotel where I stayed. It was my first trip abroad and I was on holiday from my first real job as an actress in a television drama. What I loved about the place was the slow and easy pace of life and the friendliness of the local people. The following year, 1986, I went to the south coast, to a much larger resort, but it wasn’t the same. There were too many British people there, it was really noisy and I couldn’t practise my Spanish because everyone spoke English. Luis and I got married in 1988 when he qualified as a doctor. Since then we’ve been to lots of different countries, even Australia and South America, but we keep going back to the village where we first met. Things have changed there quite considerably. Some large hotels appeared in the 1990s and they are now building a marina for yachts and power boats. Of course there are a lot more housing developments there now too. page 2 January 2005 Entry 3—Reading Questions 1.
