Technique Evaluation/Critical Thinking Essay The excerpt, Another Way to Die, by Haruki Murakami from the novel The Wind-Up Bird emphasized the various ways that one could meet their maker. The author writes this excerpt from the point of view of one of the main characters, the veterinarian of the Hsinching zoo. The narration allows the reader to almost place themselves into the setting and better grasp what the experience must have been like for him. It depicts the familiar sounds and smells of the day to day life that the veterinarian experienced prior to the attack that had ensued upon the area around the zoo. This portion of the novel takes place in August of 1945, over a period of approximately one day.
• By zoo I think you mean animal prison. Besides robbing them of freedom: disease, illness, mistreatment by handler’s visitors and other animals, injury, psychological distress, injury to visitors, and the worst of all death of the animals. Good zoos are fine, but there are some zoos out there which most people don't even know exist which are illegal and the species of animals kept are not well looked after. • While I agree to a great extent to both of the previous statements I would also have to say that the one thing about zoos that is good is that there are countless people in the world that do not have the means or opportunity to see wild animals in their natural habitat and a zoo is the only way they will ever have the chance to do so. It is sad though the way some animals are treated in zoos; I personally think the board of directors of a zoo should be personally held accountable for the well fare of the animals in their keeping.
Is keeping animals in zoos cruel? Background: zoos, endangered animals, roaming around their habitat Disagree: safe, enough food, protected poachers, Agree: natural habitat, no socializing Nowadays, in zoos all over the world, zookeepers are trying to protect endangered animals, by keeping them in captivity. The question is by doing so, do they really protect the animals or are they harming them. Some people claim that keeping animals in the zoo is not cruel as animals can get plenty to eat without having to worry about scarcity of food. Some people argue that keeping animals in zoos is cruel as animals are kept away from their natural habitat and there would be no chance for animals to socialize with each other.
I agree with zoos because that’s a way to preserve the different species but sometimes animals are not in excellent conditions. Talking seriously, people suppose that in a zoo animals are a save of abuse because somebody in taking cares of them, when the reality is that not all zoos are trying to accomplish this purpose. Most of them only are looking for money and they don’t give the right care for the animals, or they put the animals in small places that are not very similar to their original habitats; something that I saw when I visited Vallarta’s zoo, is that they have two or three monkeys with a chain around their necks and with only one bar where they could be, when the reality is that these animals never are in one tree or branch, they really like to go from tree to tree and eat different fruits, but there monkeys where ready to be in a photo with somebody and produce more money. I think that animals like humans have their rights and we must respect them, so if we are taking care of them let’s make it good. Like giving them bigger places to live, more and better food, also trying to disturb them as little as possible.
At first, he talks about how different it is to observe the whales rove in the wild comparing to those he had seen in the Vancouver Public Aquarium. He wonders if a wild animal imprisoned in a small pool can ever be considered “happy”. Continually he discusses the use of primate, which he thinks is most controversial. Here he makes the first quotation from the famous chimpanzee expert, Jane Goodall, to support his arguments and make the essay more convincing. Goodall describes the horrible conditions that the chimpanzees are enduring in laboratories.
In conclusion, I would argue that zoos do not seem to help endangered species and keeping animals behind bars only for the sake of our entertainment is not quite fair. In my opinion, people must create nature reserves, where wild animals will be able to live in their natural environment. Источник:
The Real Story in Life of Pi The difference between fiction and reality is not always evident to those who are unable or unwilling to recognize the difference. In Yann Martel’s novel Life of Pi, he wants the reader to decipher whether his first story or his second story is real. The first story consists of the protagonist, Piscine Patel, being trapped on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger, Richard Parker, and many other animals from his father’s zoo after they were lost together at sea. In the second story, Piscine tells us that he was actually on a lifeboat with a chef, his mother, and a sailor, where the characters were changed to animals to help him cope with his loss. Martel clearly wishes the reader to understand why “Pi” might have been more truthful in the one story rather than the other.
Being Lost in Central Park The writer Bill Buford explained that “Lions and Tigers and Bears” live in the Zoo at Central Park across from Times Square in New York and it was the safest place to be after dark. He also knew that getting caught after dark in Central Park at night could get him killed. Bill found himself getting lost in the maze of roads that are not lighted and the wilderness that lay all around him had started to look alike before he knew it. As Bill was trying to get himself to a safer place he kept running into people who he thought could be a vagrant or even a killer so he would keep his head down and eyes on the road. When Bill had stop to take a chilling breath and to have a look around he realized in an instant his heart rate had started to increase.

I believe that it is cruel to keep animals in cages First of all, everyone has witnessed animal cruelty before, whether it is the neglect of a pet dog or cat or animals being captured and caged for unjust and unexplained research. For example, a tiger being captured , his habitat is wide open savannas, how would he feel being locked up in a cage that has little, let enough space for running around, hunting or surviving. This is just another sign for the restriction of freedom for animals, for those who don’t understand the seriousness of the situation towards the animal, let’s just say it was you, caged up, no space to really roam around, nothing to do, you would go insane after a while, this is exactly the same for tigers and many other types of animals. People may argue that animals seem fine when they’re caged up at a zoo; the fact is this is only part of the whole picture. Trying to assess cruelty is made all the more difficult because we do not always know, and cannot always see, what becomes of the animals at night when all the people have gone home.
