Life of a Civil War Soldier Sanding in line with no cover to get shot by the opposing side’s musket is not a fun way to get killed. The civil war life was hard to be in a soldier shoes in the 1860s. Two good reasons that how life in the civil war was hard is how the soldiers were away from family for a long time, and the combat. Not being able to communicate to family members was hard on the soldiers. One reason is how that soldiers spent a lot of there free time righting to there family. Since Some times not at all because the messenger would get killed. There for Communication was difficult in the 1860 it was also difficult on the soldiers because it was hard to reach there family. Combat was one the main reason why life as a civil war soldier was hard. Ammunition was round metal balls and was shot out of a musket which was the infantry’s main weapon. If a metal ball pierced through a soldier and they did not die the medic would have to either amputate it or the soldier would die from infection like gangrene. Though if a soldier ran out of ammo they would have to either retreat or charge the enemy with there bayonet and try to stab the enemy. Last but not least civil war combat was brutal. Since it was hard for a soldier to communicate with there family and the brutal combat life as a civil war soldier was hard.
